Free Images Neil Redfearn Position: Midfield Games: 292 Goals: 71 Neil Redfearn... Redders, Captain Marvel... the list of nicknames goes on, bestowed on a player who has the affection of every tykes fan. Redders captained Barnsley FC through our one and only historical year in the premiership, and the preceding promotion season from the Championship, seen here celebrating promotion at Oakwell against Bradford City. He played for the reds 292 times, notching 71 goals during 1991-1998. He scored 17 goals from Midfield inspiring the club to promotion to the Premiership in the 1997-97 season, and he finished top scorer during the clubs Premiership season, scoring 10 league goals. There was a time when it was more or less guaranteed that Redfearn would be first goal scorer at Oakwell. An incredibly talented workhorse of a player with a powerful right foot, he led by example during his time at the club, notching many spectacular goals from Midfield, Captain of the club, and also club penalty taker. He even came out top of Midfield in the Fantasy football competitions during the Prem year, thanks to his performances, assists and goals. Redfearn was a great asset to BFC and loyal servant to the club, and every player who comes to this club will be judged by the Redders Benchmark... some were only a quarter of this player...

    Where are you here SM?

Bassett would be a worse choice than Winstanley.

Biggest disaster to happen to our club ever. FACT. And that takes into accoun the Play Off Final.

    Pointless

why even debate this when Patrick Cryne has made it clear that Simon Davey is here to stay.

For the record, Ive spoken to several Wednesday fans (as you do given our result) all of which stated their target this season was 50 points. Ignoring the pre season ticket hype about what our supposed intentions were at the time, we're on 35, 5 wins from 50 points, very achieveable. Whats Davey done wrong exactly?

We lost Eaden, Curtis and Hignett after the play-off season

Hard for any manager to cope with I admit, but Bassett replaced them with Alex Neil and Carl Reagan! What a complete ******.

    RE: Pointless

Davey's target wasn't to get 50 points - it was to get into the top half or at the very least progress

He will achieve neither of these objectives so he has failed

You asked what he has done wrong

I have told you - you can't just say "regardless of what our intentions were"

no Chairman/Owner/Administrator of a football club is going to say their target is survival, when the cheque book was about to be thrown at Kevin Phillips it was at a time that 'we' were on a learning curve in terms of the way the transfer market actually works, rhetoric that has come out since then indicates that a more realistic view is being taken now, and that top half may well still be achieveable but seen as more of a bonus than a contractual requirement. I hope/think we'll do better in terms of points and league position than last year, the squad is certainly stronger in most areas, the away form has improved, had we not lost our million pound striker for the majority of the season just when we were looking like things were turning round, top half would have been a very real possibility.

The main point I attempted to make was lets be realistic, like it seems the Wendies are, survival is the first target, always will be for 'a team like us'.

Fact is were not real madrid and as long as we survive and build again for nx season,we are a bigger and stronger squad lets hope he dont **** it up by being too negative at home,he is taking us forward not very quick but is doing well on a small budget, just wish he would chang things round earlier wen he can see it aint workin keep the faith 3 points on sat and were back on track

    Stronger Together?

until we lose a game then its Davey out. Fickle Forever would have been more appropriate.

What's your lottery numbers this week. I want to share the prize.

You know as much about the season will finish up as anyone else - that's f**k all.

If your boss / teacher approached you when you were hald way through a task and said you had failed would you think that was reasonable?

If we go down (which I doubt) with this squad I'll be the first in the queue calling for his head. If he gets us mid table then he stays in my book.

Thank the f**king lord some the myopic half wits on here don't run the club.

You have to try and sell your club so I agree he is not going to come out and say survival is our target.

The fact that we tried to sign Phillips, spent 1.2m on Hume and brought in players like Anderson, it seems to me that Cryne meant it when he said he wanted progression, and has given Davey plent of backing to, at the very least, not be in a relegation battle.

    RE: Pointless

Based on what I have seen so far this season, along with the fact that we are scoring less than one goal per game - I find it very unlikely that we will finish mid table.

Based on what you have seen - what do you think??

Well, based on the 6 away games and 1 home game I think we have a good enough squad and manager to stay and grow in this division. Based on the previous 48 years of support I'd say we have one of the better sides in terms of ability. Now, give us the beneift of your own long years of slagging the club off.

    It shouldn't take long.

maybe considering whats gone on and where we are he's revised his expectations. Fact is, we're at the business end of the season and what the next 13 games bring will shape what view people take on our progress, or perceived lack of. Im prepared to reserve judgement until then.
