Fair enough if you genuinely think that but to me its blatantly obvious we arent anywhere near good enough for this league and we still werent when hecky was in charge.
To be honest, I only have one thing I can say about this mess, and that’s that I’ll support the reds no matter what. We’ve been through worse as a squad and come through the other side- we’ll weather this storm and come back stronger as a result. The owners are in this for the long haul; not to make a quick buck, and I’m sure we’ll make it work in time. There’s a reason not too many clubs are willing to try what we’re trying with the spreadsheet, and that’s because there’s a fair sized risk, but there is also a potentially massive reward if it’s done right. If the worst that can happen is we drop down a league whilst we sort out teething issues, then so be it. I’m sure we’ll reap the rewards in the long term.
If you only exists to reap the massive rewards flogging proven players brings there is always going to be a recurrence of this problem
Rewards of flogging good players as and when they appear- MAYBE 4-5mn a season... maybe. Rewards of developing a solid team whilst selling fringe players but retaining the core squad over a few years- potential promotion to the PL- £150mn a year.
Based on Morais saying ‘it’s Heckys team’. It’s not Heckys team - it’s Morais’s team now. Under Hecky we had spirit but less quality. Under Morais we have less spirit but more quality. Which means of course - Morais is getting less with more quality. The players are disorganised - it’s clear to see they often don’t fully understand their roles. And as such their spirit is reducing game after game. It was plain to see the players were struggling from the start of the season for 3 basic reasons: 1) Good players such as Potts, Lindsey etc etc were steppping up into a higher league. 2) There was a huge intake of players all at the same time who needed time to work together. 3) Certain positions were not covered properly by recruitment in the summer - especially strikers. From the position they started from then the team was performing reasonably well - but chances to score were not being put away. Often we were dominating other teams for long periods in a match only to lose because we didn’t have the strikers to score. So the club solved its problems by signing Moore and McBurnie - an handful for any defence in this league. From that we all could assume that the team would then go on to climb up the table. But the reverse has happened. Why ??? Reason ............ Morais
Crazy man. Our current squad next season when we go down will struggle to be top half. I would think doing a Pompey/Coventry of being a former premiership club with 4th division experience would be more likely than getting promoted. The current squad is the worse in my 25 plus years of watching us. I had more confidence that we'd win a game in the Spackman and Parkin days.
If today was January 1st, which of our players would other Championship managers be sniffing round? Very few of them, I reckon, and for me that's the quality benchmark. By all means question Jose's tactics, formations, selections. But we've been spurning chance after chance, making defensive blunders all over the park week in week out, and dropping goalkeeping clangers all season long. You can't pin any of that that on the head coach.
I agree , we do have good players , unfortunately the management never addressed the goalkeeping problem, I'm not having a dig at Davies as he the same as everyone else , can have a dip in form , unfortunately there has been no back up keeper of championship quality to support this area of the team . Any team that wants to compete must have a good inform keeper . That very often can be the difference. However I do understand the issue of inconsistent team selection but that is the decision of the manager I'm sure everyone has opinions on that
