Dike doesn't look like a ten million pound player to me, but I've been wrong plenty of times before. With regards to paying ten million or more, whoever it is, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I'd love us to go up, I'd love us to stay up, but I'd love us to do it without spending the kind of money on a player that could build a hospital. Just seems all sorts of wrong. I'm aware that what I want is a fantasy. "You choose your leaders and place your trust As their lies wash you down and their promises rust You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns And the public wants what the public gets But I don't get what this society wants"
If we went up Id the take the same view as last time enjoy it while it lasts expect it to last for 1 season celebrate like hell if it's lasts longer. If we came straight back down I wouldn't blame the coach players or board i didn't last time and wouldn't this time. I just hope they'd give it a sensible go at staying up by adding a bit of PL experience and slight upgrades on any spreadsheet signings we make.
I'd rather them plan for the following season back in the Championship than make a serious tilt at staying up. Look at Huddersfield and Blackpool. Went mad signing anyone with a name but no plan behind it, no structure, and now pretty much nothing to show for it.
Agree with this theory, totally disagree in practice. If we don't go up (which we probably won't anyway), Styles will be off, Mowatt probably off, Helik/Andersen off (at least one of them), Dike back to Orlando, quite possibly Ismael off, at least in the first half of next season. We probably wouldn't be anywhere near next season as we can never build a squad, it's taken apart too quickly. So if we ever make it, it'll be out of the blue, we'll be unprepared etc, but you just have to take it. Enjoy the cash and the limelight for a bit. The money would strengthen us for 4 years.
Predictions are a waste of time really, we dont know who the playing staff or manager would be next season if we did go up, like this season Struber gone after a few month new manager in not selling in January, loaning Matty James then letting him return to parent club plus some more physical players up front brought in and all this with the uncertainty of Covid. We all have an opinion at the beginning of the season but that is based on what we have at that time and not what we don`t know will happen in the future.
