You sack him now, and we’ll look like a basket case club. No one will want to come - and who replaces him as well. He has to be given time - only been here 5 weeks….
The recruitment / replacement of players post last season end has been very poor. I cannot name one new player who I think will grow to be as good as, never mind be better, than the player whose shirt they have taken. Moreover, without importing a decent forward, running midfielder and reliable centre back, we won't finish top half and it might be a lot worse than that. Last night it was being spun that we'd so far recruited players of an equivalent league standard. In response to this I give you (Royal) Mael, obtained from a relegated French second division team. Mael was slow, without aerial command, gave away a pen, should have been second yellowed and sent off, but got subbed off after half an hour anyway. Perhaps we should have played Jack Shepherd instead. From what I've seen so far the league that Pontefract Colleries operate in is of a higher standard than French League 3. Perhaps not exactly a league equivalent to ours, even though today Pontefract Colleries would have given us a good game.
Whilst it's too early, you have to question the team selection and tactics so far. French lad not up to speed and not ready. Dallas needs time to develop and on that showing there is a lot of scope. We have gone from being hard to play against to a Lee Johnson type side, venerable whenever we lose possession. Far too many chances per game given up to the opposition. Got away with it at Bristol but 6 goals conceded in last 2 home games when goalkeeper has been our best player, says it all. Playing Styles in the hole is leaving us light in midfield and easy to counter against. Not only some of the players don't look up to it but I fear for Collins playing like we are. I agree he has been dealt a bad hand but he's not helping himself.
I thought Phillips played in the so called hole today first half, saying that he was poor but Styles just doesn’t seem interested
How anyone can criticise Callum Styles today having seen Herbie Kane is beyond me. The lad was woeful. Styles was (pretty unfairly) booked after four minutes and had to play sensibly from that point onwards - he couldn’t get a foot in as that ref would have sent him off quick as you like. We were hugely fortunate De Gevigney wasn’t sent off. Also, I read an interview with Lopata this past week in which he suggested he’s deceivingly quick. Well you’ve deceived me Kacper lad, because about four or five times today you looked like you were running in lead boots, which wasn’t ideal as Liam Kitching was wading through treacle at the side of him.
At this moment it's looking like a very educated decision, we look like a bottom L2 posing as a L1 is disguise
He looks weak, sorry to draw comparisons but Duff came into a difficult situation and within the first few weeks he looked like he'd got a grip on the dressing room and was installing a winning attitude and some fight. Collins looks bewildered already, dead man walking, the players look cheesed off and are starting to have that I don't want to play for this manager look about them.
I agree mate, but Styles doesn’t want to be here, it can be seen with his body language.....I ask you a question now? ..... when has Call um Style ever looked above everyone when played in midfield?......I wish I could name plenty but I cant, he his overrated pal, and Ben interesting to see where he finishes up, obviously Millwall don’t see value in him at the so called 2 million price tag
No, Phillips played alongside Kane with licence to get forward which made us even more vulnerable when we attacked
Whilst sacking him at this stage would be incredibly ridiculous, he needs to sort our wing backs out. Half the time they’re basically playing as wingers and not getting back. At one stage today we had Cadden, Styles, Phillips and Cotter all slowly ambling back as they were countering. It’s reminding of the championship season under Stendel where our full backs were constantly getting caught up field. I know we play with wing backs now but they are regularly so far out of position, it’s bordering on crackers.
I'm not going to say anything (else) tonight but this is the nub of the matter and there's only one person responsible for it. There were players out there today that if that's the limit of their qualities and abilities then Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson, Sarina Wiegman and Merlin the Magician rolled into one wouldn't be able to do any better. The one thing Collins needs to do is to grow a pair tonight and get in Neerav's ear to recruit the experienced, quality players that are needed. Two proper dominating centre-backs who can move faster than Brian the Snail are the first requirements along with a strong hold it up combative striker. That still leaves qualitative gaps from the Wembley squad but should at least stop us looking like we're going to concede off every opposition attack. Thank God for Liam Roberts who's been excellent so far.
The club captain was sold to a premier league team and replaced with a non-league player. Our most experienced striker was replaced with a non-league striker. It doesn't take a genius to guess it wouldn't go smoothly.
The problem is that they have done very similar in the past, slightly different iteration of the board but there’s enough around that were then, and genuinely thought it would work. Thought they’d made good signings. Listen last night - they really think they’ve signed like for like quality. Or even worse, are trying to gaslight us into believing that.
