It’s not only manual/ heavy work that takes its toll, work that takes it out of you mentally can equally do this. Indeed, I read a couple of years back that retired teachers live the least number of years after retirement.

Whilst I agree that can be a stressful profession. The more manual the work the more stress on the body. And the less the pay tends to lead to a poorer diet.

Professionals with the highest degree of education seem to have the longest survival after their 65th year, in the UK at least,

My wife was born in 1952 and retired at just over 62 (not sure how many days) so she may get some compensation - if any at all get it. I always thought was a bit unfair that women retired at 60, especially in view of a longer life expectancy. However, back in the days when the retirement age for women was set at 60, it was against a backdrop of women mostly being housewives. My mum for example, only worked when I was 16 (1972), having not worked since my brother was born in 1946 (she worked at Bassetts in Sheffield). I think in the modern world where women generally do work, I don't see why the retirement age should be different. But I think the WASPI women do deserve some sort of compensation for having the goalposts moved so late in the day. I fact I think I should be compensated for my retirement being moved back a year.....

I had read that - and did used to believe it/repeat it myself - but looking into the facts show that it was a bit of a fallacy. Teachers live on average to 83/86.

https://www.yourmoneysorted.co.uk/b...ch from the Office, live even longer than this.
