    Lived in Ireland for ten years, great scenery, friendly people and still have many good friends there, back in the uk from Knock airport in an hour but the weather finally got to us. We are happy now in Portugal, been here six years and although winters are mild but wet, summers are reliable. The people are welcoming, scenery varied and enjoying learning another language and we feel safe,as we did in rural Ireland. Pre covid, could be back in the uk in three hours for visits. New Zealand was a pipe dream once but too long in the tooth now

    Agreed. Managed to fit in a long weekend in Slovenia last August. Absolutely fell in love with the place!

    We are retiring there in the next 6-8 months and I cannot wait. Just wish we could go and look at houses, especially as we have just sold ours here and need to get a wiggle on.

    For me, it would be France without a 2nd thought. I love the culture, food & wine. The climate is good - the people are lovely

    Very exciting Helen. Nervous as well as we are going all in and it is a big leap, but if we don’t do it now, we never will. I think the last 18 months has shown us that life is too short.

    Very true. Not sure I could emigrate as I do love England, the changes in weather, the sense of humour, the scenery, it's "home" and so it's where I feel comfortable I suppose but in my dreams it's Italy!

    We have purposely chosen an area that has seasons as we still want to have sun 24/7 365. The scenery is also similar to the Dales, with the added bonus you can either be on the ski slopes in 40 minutes or the beach in 30, depending on where you buy. The region is Abruzzo and the scenery is spectacular.

    My Swedish ex and I talked tentatively about moving there.

    I do love Sweden, and that's where I would go. Laid-back people - the Sweden Democrats fuckaboutery notwithstanding - and a more relaxed pace of life, certainly in the area she's from. Nothing on the roads. Even I could probably drive there, and pretty wooden houses.

    The language is a pain, mind. But the ex's friend is with an English bloke, and the government gave him free Swedish lessons! I would have some of that!

    You'd only have to get used to two seasons a year, instead of four seasons in a day. The scenery is on par with UK and the sense of humour accessed via tinternet.
