But Salmond also lied in his response - he said that The Mound in Edinburgh goes back to Lloyds taking over TSB years back. It doesn't, The Mound was the headquarters of the Bank of Scotland which merged with the Halifax in the early 2000's to become HBOS, and that was taken over in 2008 by Lloyds. It is still the headquarters for their Scottish division.

Hey Dek nae need tae be like that mate. FFS this is one hell of a decision I have to make. Maybe not for myself but for my children and 4 grandchildren.

Like any responsible parent I want the best for my children and here on BBS I respect and take on board all of your comments to help in making the right choice.

OK you might think it all a joke, or like lots of English folk don't care because it will not affect you but you might be very wrong. It could perhaps have a very big impact on how England as a country adapts to the changes as there surely will be big changes ahead for both of us.

BTW I like the banter as well and your joke did go over my head. Maybe just getting a wee bit too serious atm.

that's right kev,the tories and the Westminster government will still have the London stock exchange and one of the worlds largest financial centres which will be there long after any riches Scotland has has dried up.Like I said earlier, listening to Saimond you would think they were sat on reserves like those of the arab nations.
tories couldn't give a toss and labour are shittin' themselves because their vote will have took a right hammering.

    Only having a laugh mate,
I take the vote very serious ian, make no mistake about that, but if you want my honest opinion,i think Scotland will come out of it worse than England, but I cant blame the 2.odd million yes voters wanting out of the Westminster shackles, after all I feel the same in my heart but in my head I know unity is strength.

Re: Keeping the Incompetence(labour) vs the Toffs(Condems) choice in Westminster

I can understand why there's a groundswell building behind the push for independence in Scotland. It's a nation that instinctively seems to be leaning left politically and with the neo-liberal political landscape that has prevailed in Westminster since the 1980's it has increasingly put them at odds.

I'm just not sure the SNP are the party to deliver the political landscape north of the border post-independence. When you look at their backers it seems to include a lot of the type of people who would support the conservatives south of the border, namely privateers, hedge funders, tax avoiders. Salmond has made no secret of the fact that he is aiming to drive corporation tax below the levels currently on offer in the UK. Even allowing for the fact the Scots get to keep the oil revenues and will probably run a leaner armed forces that the UK (no Trident missile system for one) I would still worry whether the political landscape will change to that degree.

Somehow lost in all this debate is that the ex-miner in Lanarkshire has more in common with the ex-miner in Barnsley than he he has with some of the prominent backers of the SNP and post-independent Scotland isn't about to turn in to a worker's paradise.

There aren't different kinds of dog poo. Its all poo. Those who think anything is different because the poo is Scottish cannot see the wood for the trees.

If I was Scottish I'd want independence but I wouldn't trust Salmond's SNP to deliver the sort of society I'd want to live in.

if I had a vote it would be a YES vote for Independence.

However, looking into my crystal ball what I think will happen is that the No's will win this time - Westminster will fail miserably to deliver on their promise re Devomax - Sturgeon (leader by 2016) will therefore call for another referendum and the Yes's will win.

No fan of George Galloway but he's wiping the floor with Nichola Sturgeon in the televised debate on now. She really is devoid of credibility
