Re: They were behind early on, but ....

by grit and Scottish 'brave-heartedness' with heart ruling head, they battled back to be level and looked like they might even go on to win. However, the resources of the greater nation and their tactical naivety eventually put paid to their effort and they lost, albeit fairly narrowly. GERMANY 2, SCOTLAND 1!!

To be fair, that wasn't a lie... Just a matter of semantics. What he said was 'Scotland could have the pound, or dollar, or yen etc etc etc'. What he meant was its irrelevant what currency they would have as its dependent on whether there is a formal currency union with England, with the BoE as lender of last resort.

To get that, there needs to be agreement with the Uk government. All three parties have stated that this will not be allowed. Now of course, this could be ******** and when the time comes they may well buckle but Salmonds arrogant claim that 'Scotland will definitely keep the pound' is disingenuous and a worse still, a massive leap of faith.

And as my new friend George Galloway said, how can a country be independent when its central bank, its lender of last resort is in another country ?
