    Barnsley FC: Accepting mediocroty

    Of should that be ENCOURAGING?

He managed to just avoid relegation three years in a row

with his 45 signings and he's only spent about £5m

    Don't talk *****!!!

So according to you we are not allowed to support our club if we want to criticise the managment. Criticism of football managers is part of the territory and is a healthy thing!

Davey lost my support about ten weeks ago.

Because he's not up to the job. I could be here all day listing the things that have persuaded me that it's time to get rid.

If you consistently leak goals in the last five or ten minutes of a match - it's not bad luck - it's a genuine problem that needs to be addressed. If it happens once - it's bad luck.

Substituting a striker off to put on a winger just doesn't make sense to anyone.

JCR as a sweeper or a central midfielder just doesn't work.

Why do we never have any sense of coordination when we work from set pieces?

Why do we never have any sense of deliberate purpose going forward?

Why do we play five in midfield when we're at home?

We do we try to defend one goal leads when we know that we can't do it for ninety minutes?

Why did we sign a goal scoring centre forward only to play him on the wing?

Why do we consistently fail to keep our shape? Why does he have to keep switching his wingers between the wings - is he trying to be clever? It doesn't work.

The truth of the matter is that we know that this team has some very tidy footballers, well capable of football at Championship level, Davey nearly got them relegated through his pig ignorant stubborn attitude that refused to accept that his daft formations and his bizarre tactics don't work. With Davey at the helm any team playing us knows for a full blooded fact that nine times out of ten if you score two goals against Barnsley, you will win. Looking at the Norwich away result particularly - 4-0 - the reason why we got stuffed by that margin (having been 0-0 at half time) was Norwich realised that we actually had nothing to threaten them with up front. We lacked coordination, we didn't make the most of our possession, and they could take the risk of us scoring by bombing on, because blatently we weren't going to. So they just flooded forward and put the ball in the box - played basic attacking football, got people forward, pegged us back, and they could do this because they had nothing to fear in their own defensive third. We were abysmal. We were also abysmal against Ipswich Town away - but what can be said about Swansea at home? The fact is that if we defend for our lives we could grind out draws with Davey, but he has no idea how to put a team together that can actually attack and score goals. When we play badly - like we did against Swansea - we get drubbed. That's not a winning equation. I've already said this, but his squad is good enough - he is the weak link.

The final point about Davey is that he is not media friendly, he is not fan friendly. He does not like to be questioned, he does not like to be held to account and he does not like to admit when he has got things wrong. His post-match interviews come across painfully arrogant and he never seems to learn from the performances on the field. If you listened to Davey you'd think he was Brian Clough - he talks a great game, but we rarely see it on a Saturday afternoon. The biggest farce of all was when we drew with Derby County away from home - you'd have though we'd won five nil from the confidence that match was suppose to have given us, but we drew it nil-nil and took nothing more than a hollow, moral victory. I was at Derby and we did indeed play them off the park in the midfield and kept possession superbly well - but in the final third we were laughable and barely carved open more than a couple of decent chances. In typical fashion it was 0-0 going into the final ten minutes, we ran out of steam and nearly got caught with a last minute sucker punch (but thankfully their lad headed over the bar coming onto a cross, unmarked on the back post). For some reason Davey was over the moon.

If Davey stays we'll be nailed on for another relegation battle next year and we very well may go down. Stupidity is doing the same things over and over, expecting a different result each time. Davey is more than guilty of having done that this season. We will be guilty of that if we keep him for another year.

As for "stay away if you don't back Davey" - thanks for the advice. I may very well take it, but in case you hadn't noticed, we do need the attendances at Oakwell, so I'm not sure that you'll do the club much of a favour if you go around to everyone who wants Davey out telling them not to turn up. It could be a very empty ground.

If Davey stays I will be massively disappointed. It will send me a message very clearly that Barnsley Football Club expects the fans to get fobbed off with any old *****, and there is basically no ambition at all. Sorry if you find that objectionable - it's just exactly how I feel on the matter.

you can't have it both ways Springvale Red.
You can't cheer on the team and slag off the manager because the team and how they play is the product of the manager.

    Cheers

to be honest - yes - the club would be better off without you.
What good is aupporter who does nothing but criticise the team and manager all season.
If you've been unhappy with manager and players this season why on earth would you turn up next season - same manager, same players.

    RE: Don't talk *****!!!

I totally agree with you Conkotyke, criticism of manager, team is acceptable. (Having said that it is surprising how quiet some critics become when the team is doing well.)

My post was aimed at those supporters who have called for Davey to be sacked.

    Thanks

thank you for your long reply.
There is nothing wrong with criticising team selection, tactics, etc.
What I can'tunderstand is why someone like yourself who is clearly very unhappy with Davey would consider coming to Oakwell next seson.
There is no point as you couldn't support the manager nor the team under him.

RE: Davey lost my support about ten weeks ago.

...that many genuine fans, who have supported the club as long as they can remember (through thick and thin) have an emotional attachment to the club that runs far deeper than who happens to be the manager at the moment. I support Barnsley F.C. - not Simon Davey. Eventually Simon Davey will leave Barnsley F.C. (it's just something that you'll have to come to terms with) and the club will still be there and so will I. Oakwell is a home to me and for thousands of other supporters who regard it to be a more than bricks and mortar. If you can't understand how that works then too bad pal - maybe you should consider packing it in? You'll only break your heart when Davey leaves (it's sounds to me that you're more of a Davey fan than a Barnsley fan TBH).
