RE: Problem is.......

If you lived in a country where your life was at stake from the current government and you wanted to escape to somewhere else, how would you go about getting permission to leave?

Id suggest asking the very government (or its institutions) that might want you locked up/tortured/shot would not be a good place to start.

Who said anything "about permission to leave"?

We're talking about permission to enter.

RE: Who said anything "about permission to leave"?

That was my point, expect I was trying to explain it from "the other end". If you were running for your life, would you have time to sit down and write for permission to enter the UK and then wait for a reply? Or would you just peg it and hope for the best when you got to your destiniation?

Many assylum seekers come here illegally because they dont have passports, cant get passports and cant 'officially' leave the country. That's why they dont turn up on BA flights at Heathrow with their suitcases and tour guides!

They're welcome to present themselves to the aurthorities as bona fide asylum seekers.

And I'm proud to belong to a country that provides that facility.

    That last one.........

.....we could make the "asylum seekers" do it.

I think we should give pensioners the option of having a dog at no expense. Food and vet care paid for.

Good company and a willing guard against ne'erdowells.

Akitas are good because they're not bothered about exercise and they eat smack-heads for breakfast.

March them to the cash machines would only be the tip of my unattractive iceberg

    Fast justice is good justice.

Marched to the cash machines to pay fines immediately. In f act there would be a special agency that knows your pin number and takes the money as soon as you are fined.

Not enough funds would mean the imposition of a prison sentecce, one month for every tenner short.

Next - One dozen fortress prisons, each built in a remote part of a remote scottish or welsh island. each holding up to 2000 people.

Those guilty of hideously violent crimes of rape, robbery and murder would go there forever. No telly, no post, no contact, nothing. Forgotten forever.

Prison overpopulation solved and a superb way of letting everyone know there is a place set aside for them if they want it.

Oh, and £5000 fine AND 3 months jail for those who put their luggage and mucky feet on busy train seats, causing the meek and polite to stand up - AND an extra 3 months for those who do that and pretend to be asleep.

Bloody hell. I scare mi sen sometimes.

    No...

So who would do the individual barginning?
The bosses wouldn't want to do it... collective barginning makes their job easier.
