best competetive record of any england manager hasn't he?

    created a team.

OK , maybe it was time for him to leave after the world cup - personally i would have given him the crack at one last tournament - but replacing him with McClaren has just taken england back several steps. i would have thought the downturn in form since Sven left is pretty strong evidence that he was a good manager.

    Must be a wind up

Personally I thought that he got a tournament too many.

He genuinely did have aquality generation of players to choose from - even with Rooney not quite fit and Owen out injured. The squad selection was a total joke for thelast world cup and his inability to motivate players who had asincere chance of winningthe whole thing was a farce. He was in it for what he could make financially and he couldn't really care less whether or not the team got past the quarter finals. The appointment of McClaren, and the form of the national team since thatappointment is only a reflection of how inept the F.A. are atchoosing managers, and how unsuitable Steve McClaren is. It's just one badmanager after another. Svenwasted our best chance for many a year to win the world cup, McClaren is destined to fail to qualify. With the players we had at our disposal, this time, somebody has to go at the F.A. and not just the first team manager.
