'Fraid I haven't got an answer on that one - I am as baffled as you are - just because I back DW doesn't mean I agree with, or even understand some of his decisions. That is one of them. We need a right back urgently. Wish to god that Hassell was still at the club. (edit - assuming that, if he was, he'd get game time)
You are correct that people lack patience but just because he had success 17 odd years ago doesn't mean it will be repeated. His record since leaving us is distinctly average to say the least. Howard Kendall had great success at Everton 1st time round but his 2nd spell was a disaster.
I'd disagree with that assessment - but it depends on the definition of "success". It's fair to say that he doesn't have a bag of promotions to his name like Neil Warnock, but pretty much everywhere he's gone he's built good sides to watch that have been top 6 sides on a repeat basis - he's lost some play offs but they are single game lotteries. He would almost certainly have got the Blunts promoted if his star striker hadn't been sent down when the season was approaching its final stages. And there's every chance he would have done it the following season, had the club not made one of the most baffling sacking decisions I've ever seen, sacking him with 5 to play with the club in the top 6.
Correct but the supporters are the lifeblood of clubs financially and ultimately will vote with their feet if things are not going well. Perhaps that has a huge influence on Clubs changing managers all to frequently. Without revenue it makes the running of the club even more difficult.
That's a good point about Warnock and yes everyone has different perceptions as to what constitutes success. From my own viewpoint all I want is signs of progress being made and a manager who reacts to poor performances by making changes rather than persisting with something that isn't working.
That's all I want mate - Too many are basing their unhappiness on their having expectations that we could get promoted at the first attempt - for me that was never going to happen. I'll be happy this season if we finish mid table, if we can see signs that the building programme is making good progress, and if I can look back on the season when its over and point to some games that I actually enjoyed going to, because there haven't been many over the last 2 years. I am still confident on all 3 asks - mid table is certainly realistic and I've probably enjoyed more games this season already than I did the whole of last season.
I believe the side need a bit more time, and I believe Danny will be afforded that time. I know it's nobody's cup of tea, but we need to bring in 2 or 3 loanees, purely because we still have gaps in the squad. We don't really have a right winger, and I feel like we need to tighten up a bit more defensively. As good as they may seem individually, Nyatanga, M'Voto and Cranie were the constants from a bad defence last season. I'd like to see a new centre half brought in who could possibly form a partnership with one of those 3. It's still early days, so much so that 2 wins or 2 more defeats could completely change the entire complexion of the season again.
