    Probably

He did seem to make a habit of it.

I think I'm right in saying that he was signed without Clarke ever having seen him play, simply on the say so of Martin Wilkinson. Clarke, at first, stuck him on the left wing but thank God, he put him in his proper position soon enough.

What a player, the sort of player we can only dream about these days.

    Actuall...

I met Alan Clarke when he came back for his second spell in charge and the story about Glavin is that Glavin didn't want to come to Barnsley from Celtic (us being a lower league side at that time and all) so he told Clarke he'd come if he got paid a certain amount of money (which in that day was silly money) - he thought that his demand would get rid of our interest in him. Clarkey agreed to the demand. Glavin thought about about it, but couldn't turn the offer down. Clarke new damn well that Glavin was a genuine top flight player. So did Glavin. The man's an all time great. No doubt about it. I wish we could have him back now, with John Hendrie. F8ck me, the defences would be scared to death. I've got a video of Glavin that my dad made during his hay day - it's all taped on VHS from Calander and Look North etc. It's a priceless artifact.

Don't get me started about Glavin, wot a player, was always up for the big games, Wednesday fans hated him and was pure class on the ball and a brilliant finisher.
Derek Parker said Glavin, although he looked a bit heavy, was the fittest player at the club by a mile.
The rumour was that Newcastle offered £400k for him which back then was a huge amount (McCarthy went for around £250k to Man City).
There's no way a player that good would come to a club like ours these days so it was a real privilege looking back.

In my opinion , the greatest Reds player ever

Loved the way he terrified opposition players and fans ( especially Sheffield Wednesday ) simply by his presence !(worship) It didn't matter who we played at that time , we knew we had the best player on the pitch. It was an honour and absolute joy to watch the great man in action .
