I don't understand that. If we were making way for the 'tidal wave of immigrants coming to our shores' wouldn't we make the pension age younger so that people will retire earlier and there are jobs for all these people? By pushing the pension age back we're keeping our current work force in employment for longer meaning fewer jobs will be available (for the young or immigrants). Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Agreed Pinball. The Empire has done lots of good. But it's also been a complete fcuker. And I did say historically, not currently. Agree with you there too. I just get really wound up by the sheer hypocrisy of people spouting absolute boll0cks about border control.

It's a tricky subject Tomfun. History shows that free movements of peoples and labour can be an economically good thing. I certainly have no problem with anyone coming here to work hard and contribute to our society. But we do need to look as to whether this will happen. Seemingly, anyone who mentions their concerns about immigration is immediately branded a racist and the debate is shut down, which is a dangerous thing. Though, a lot of these people don't do themselves any favours in they way they put their concerns forward.
And RE the 'ole Empire, look at India today. Sometimes we need to stand up and say, yes we did do some good. A legal framework that promoted private property rights and contract law, enlarging the truly appalling irrigation system, communications and 40,000 miles of railway track that ultimately went on to employ a million people in the 40s. Not to mention medical care, sanitation and universities. Strong foundations.

I apologise for going off on a tangent there.

What a load of ********. The increasing retirement age has nothing to do with immigration, it's people living longer. In fact, without all the employer and employee NI contributed as a direct effect of immigrants working here we'd all be retiring much later than we currently are.

As tomfun says, listening to people spout ill informed rubbish on here gets tedious very quickly.

The increased retirement age always makes me laugh. Well at those having a go against it. Don't understand how people think that we can create wealth and prosperity by sitting about and doing nothing and retiring at 50.

It's a pyramid scheme more immigrants to pay for the pensions and then more immigrants to pay for the immigrants when they're retiring and so on.

I think the problem is with immigration that you're not allowed to say that some immigrants are more desirable than others because that's racist, so Somalis who are 80% unemployed and highly involved with drug dealing and Roma gypsies who live on the whole by begging, stealing and pickpocketing have to be seem as the same as hard- working immigrants from China or India.

No it isn't, it's because there's been a banking crash and money was taken out of pension funds.

Immigrants make a net contribution to the economy.

    Absolute *****.

It's because your party are creating a Britain where the weak are left to charity and the rich can do as they like.

Would you suggest he votes Labour to tackle the immigration issues? UKIP maybe but definitely not Labour. I'm not having a go I'm just not sure what point you're making.

Lest we forget the £40,000 a year rise the Tories gave to their Millionaire friends and supporters. The Tory apologists on here are beyond belief. Hijacking jax2 terrible situation to make a point on which they provide **** all proof.

My point is that his ill informed diatribe blaming immigrants for all these ills when unfettered free market capitalism is to blame for the horrific cuts affecting people like Jax2

The Tories will deepen this situation and whilst I'm not convinced Labour would work to deliver the ultimate solution, they might bring a little compassion bank into things.
