unfortunately, we now live in a blame-claim culture and 'could we get sued' is probably the first question BFC & BMBC will ask. i was at the red lion yesterday for dinner. car park like an ice rink, people slipping all over. i asked the bar manager why it hadn't been cleared. answer i got was that they're not liable for accidents, if they don't make any attempt to clear it, as it's classed by insurance companies as 'an act of god'. she said they're only liable, if there's an accident after they've attempted to clear. in her own words, the insurance company actively advised them not to clear it. another bloke at the bar said he was also a business owner and got the same advice for his car park.
Correct. As an adult I get sick of being told that risk assessment involving my own personal safety is beyond me. I grew up in the 70's ffs and I survived, I'm sure I can manage to walk to Oakwell in the snow.
You maybe can but there could be plenty that can't, so they'll just have to miss it? What about those that have to drive? Right decision for me.
Doesnt oakwell have a gate directly onto one of the main roads in the town which is clear of snow and ice?
It's just the whole H&S culture that does my head in. People are just to scared of being sued these days.
I'd just rather stay off the roads where possible, as is the recommendation from most relevant organisations when the weather is like it is. What if it snows again tonight? Stuck on the roads isn't top of my Xmas to do list.
