I'm a bit lost. You said one was pushing up & one was staying back? With 2 centre backs & one full back staying back & the holding midfielder, even with my rudimentary understanding of mathematics that makes 4 defenders?

 

Yep that is the case now and JW suggested this had changed recently from before where I now "tuck round rather than me being high as well".

 

I'm hoping the players aren't too high. That could explain things though with defensive errors. I thought that had always been the system, but if not I can see your surprise.

 

Being too high could explain quite a lot about some of our defensive performances.

They tend to have made a hash of things from time to time.

 

I know we need speed in defence, but wasn't taking it literally. I'd be ecstatic if we could keep a clean sheet sometime soon.

 

If we can just weed out the silly errors, I think we will be alright this season

Great track on a now frivolous thread & I'm largely responsible for that. I can never resist playing this track though as a DJ & it is always dedicated to a man that loved Barnsley FC & worked tirelessly for people that needed help & who ended up in prison (he worked in the prison service, but went well beyond what people would do to help). Massive music fan too. There is a plaque in his honour in the lower part of the East Stand. Will be 12 years soon, since we lost him. Higher & Higher.

He may have said players may be leaving. But that applies at any club during a transfer window if they are deemed surplus or not good enough. Struber wants to concentrate on putting more effort on to less individuals. 2 different meanings.

 

I thought Murphy had said that the squad needed to be trimmed. There were lots of comments from people on here saying that it was Murphy getting in excuses early for selling the assets again.

I think if we actually listen to the head coach in January, instead of being too focused on the spreadsheet we will have a chance of staying up.
He's clearly identified the players he thinks he can improve & the ones that either don't have the right attitude or don't fit our style of play.
We have recruited some decent players by the spreadsheet, but not really a fully functioning team, now is the time to address that.
