Best player I've seen - Ruud Gullit playing for AC Milan v Man Utd
Best English player - Bryan Robson
Best Barnsley Player - Glavin, without a doubt
Best current player - Lionel Messi (only on tv)
Best current Barnsley player - only seen a few times live, so will have to go with Butters, or Steele.
Best current England player - Rooney. Don't like him as a person, but think he's a great player.

Not too sure as what you mean?
If you mean why do I rate him? Then its because he does everything a keeper should do and does it well. Hew can improve and is doing.
Does Steele not think he is a good keeper then?

he said i will not move to be a number two, aim is to play in prem but doesnt think hes good enough yet. also wants until late 30's and thinks he'll hit peak about 30.

my opinion is he can be a prem keeper but little things need to improve. kickings one big area.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
    Go on then, mine:

Best player I've seen - Glenn Hoddle
Best English player - Glenn Hoddle. No player since Hoddle - and I include Gascoigne - has made me feel the game could be both elegant and beautiful. Le Tiss on song came close.
Best Barnsley Player - Hignett. Didn't see much of Glavin.
Best current player - Lionel Messi or, on current form, van Persie.
Best current Barnsley player - No idea. Not been this season. Is Chris Shuker still there?
Best current England player - Best English player is Rooney, without a doubt, but only for his club. Best player when playing for England, as in the most consistent for his country, is probably Ashley Cole.

Zidane. It's worth watching the many You Tube clips because like all great players he makes the incredibly difficult look not only very easy, but he has so much time doing them that other players look like school kids beside him.

And to top it off he used both feet. Bloke was a footballing genius. The only English player to come close was Gazza, and anyone disagreeing is wrong :)

    I liked Bobby Doyle, too

It's interesting to note that most players mentioned in the thread are attack minded, and whilst I concur with most omn here about the best Barnsley player I've ever seen is Glavin, there should be some acknowledgement that football is not always about attacking, afetr all why do we have defenders?
Anyway it's mightily unfair to compare yesteryear players to modern day ones as nowadays there is so much more footage of players both home & overseas.....
One could go on about best striker, midfielder etc but from what i've seen there are precious few English players who could hold their own abroad.....thinking now of proven ones like Hoddle/Gascoigne and ones that didn't do themselves justice -Rush for example
