My old USB Wireless (Linksys) was very poor so I bought one of these (if your on a PC)...
Edimax EW-7711UAN 11n 150mbs Wireless High Gain USB Adapter Edimax EW-7711UAN 11n 150mbs Wireless High Gain USB Adapter, about £10.
Plug into PC, much improved signal & works a treat now.
Also check your antenna on the wireless router. Might need moving around to improve the signal.

Have you considered a hobby that involves dealing with people or maybe volunteering as the rewards can be great or evening dipping your toes into part time employment?

Sky routers are notorious for poor signals - mine was the same. Log on to the router, change the channel to something other than what it is currently. Trial and error until you get a better signal. I changed mine to 11. I wasn't able to access the internet when upstairs (10m away from the router). It's perfect now.

IF there is still a problem after changing the channel, try these - I use them for my Xbox and the connection is simply brilliant - you can chain them around your house too, if you have other devices and want a solid, reliable connection:
