From personal experience I would say:- Stamford Bridge 81/82 Millwall 80/81 Liverpool 81/82 Pompey 78/79 Boro 80/81, 82/83 and 89/90 Enfield 80/81 West Ham 80/81 Worst, most intimidating police for me were West Midlands. They always seemed to be up for aggro! The boys from the Met seemed to hate northerners venturing into that theeur London.
Ah so you were at that Pompey game. I knew it would be ‘rough’ when we got a corner...and they Invaded the pitch. That and the bench coming through the Southsea cafe window as we ate breakfast!
It was manic that day wasn't it? We landed early morning and from then on in it just got worse lol. They invaded the pitch a few times if memory serves me right? Then there were the cranks hanging out of a car and smacking our coach with pokes on the way out.
When we used to have that corner standing pen , was somewhat annoying rather than intimidating getting coined by 12 year olds. The walk too and from St Andrews never pleasent. Upton Park was intimidating with what you could see in the home fans in the pen next to you.
Elland Road after we beat them 2-1 under mad Mel was quite a night. The door under South Stand looked like it wasnt up to the task for a while. Maine Road was OK if you parked up in a safe spot.
Sometimes your mood depends on the result and I think it's fair to say we were pretty ecstatic after that one. They were top of the league we were bottom! I remember walking out of the ground with Gary Sefton and about 12 other lads. Walked through the middle of the L**ds support singing our heads off. Didn't give a toss. Got some bad looks but that was as far as it went. Sat on the mini bus on the way home thinking F*CK - that was a stupid thing to do!
