Nah, it shows how special the doggies (and Guide Dogs for the Blind) are, we're just lucky enough to offer them a home while they fulfill their destiny.
Your modesty & humility does you great credit. The dogs ARE special, but that doesn't denigrate what wonderful people you and your husband are. As a footnote, our dog Mayo is laid on my foot and has been for ages. I've got pins and needles in it, but I don't want to disturb him!
I agree with Kev I think you do an amazing job. I agree the Dogs are special too but without people like you they wouldn’t be able to help people like they do. Great that you can see the difference they make when they are paired up. It’s nice to have a good news thread.
Great work @JamDrop , beautiful dog & what a great service to those that need it. You deserve every respect, but I sense you get a lot out of it too, which is brilliant. I love the 3 dogs I walk 3 days a week in my time off, a cavapoo, a cockerpoo & a border terrier. I can't have my own dog due to rules in my flat & my work. They bring me so much joy. During lockdown, when my business was shut down for 18 months they kept me on the right side of sanity, although I did slip a few days when I didn't take them out. I took them to Whitby a few weeks ago for 4 days with my elderly Dad, who is in & out of hospital. (He returned home today after another week in Barnsley Hospital). They brought him a lot of joy too. Dogs can do things humans can't at times, they are great communicators. There is a link going back many, many centuries between dogs & humans that is very special.
That's brilliant @JamDrop! Hope Kris enjoys her new home , it's amazing what you and guide dogs for the blind acieve, independence is something we tend to take for granted.
Update time! The lovely Sandra qualified and left us on 6th June. We now have Kotu for the weekend. She’s very beautiful and seems to be quite the mischief. She’s already run upstairs and jumped on the bed!
I only have her for the weekend. She’s only just started her training, I’m sure she’ll be as good as gold by the end. Probably
As you'll see from my profile pic, Goldies are my favourite dog, yes they can be mischievous and greedy, but they are wonderful dogs, full of love.
Kotu came and stayed with us again the weekend just gone and the training she’s had was really evident, she was much better behaved. We now have Penny for between 2-4 weeks whilst her normal fosterers are on holiday. She’s a cross between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd and is 1yr 4month old. She’s a big, strong girl! Also, Sandra update. Her and her new partner successfully qualified together and became a working partnership. Here they are on the right. https://www.facebook.com/2611172673...M2CCXUS24qfNUGVKwpDQnJG99R45BZEzQwZl/?app=fbl
We got to meet Iris and her lovely owner (and owner’s husband and pet dog) last week. It was amazing!! Iris recognised the house and us straight away. It was so lovely to see her again and to meet her new owner too. Today we got Keir, a dual trained (Guide and Hearing) dog who is 5 years old. He’s a golden retriever with a little bit of flat coated retriever. He’s been quite poorly so he’s staying with us for respite so we can give him his medication and special food and he can have a holiday from working whilst he recovers. His owner sent him with absolutely tons of stuff! She must be worried about him, bless her.
Aw, he's absolutely gorgeous and doubly clever by the sounds of things! Hope you spoil him rotten on his holiday with you!
We definitely will! Although it’ll have to be via cuddles and not food as he definitely needs to go on a diet. Our previous heaviest dog was 30kg, he’s 38kg and is quite the chunk.
Wow thats quite a big dog. I am sure he is in good hands though and you will soon have him fit and ready to go back to work again. He doesnt look overweight in the photos
No but the best way to tell is to look down at them from above. When he walks straight on towards us it’s pretty clear too. He’s nowhere near as bad as some dogs get but he’s definitely above ideal, especially for a working dog. I’d put him in the 7 category on here.
