Yep

Still not convinced about us defensively - nearly 2 goals per game conceded last year, and unable to keep a clean sheet so far this year. And if we aren't scoring at the other end, well...

    So how come...

Davey said Phillips choosing Birmingham wasn't to do with money, just that they he deemed them (understandably) to have more chance of promotion than us?

That suggested we matched a team on wages that came down from the Premier League.

so even when we can match them

financially they still turn us down. I do agree though that every club in the country is looking for a proven goalscorer and I'm more confident with Hulme and Macken but would have loved Nards to stay....the best I've seen him play ws under Davey when he more or less kept us up just not consistant enough though!

I'll bet nearly everybody is nervous about their own club

Few will think their club has done enough, and many will probably be expecting a struggle of some kind or other.

Personally, I don't expect any great shakes. Better than the last two years I would hope. But then if somebody told me last year that we would beat Liverpool AND Chelsea, be instrumental in getting the smaller clubs into the Cup Finals, become media darlings for a month or so, and cause Jeff to have a near heart attack on live telly - I would have wondered what they were smoking.

A lot depends on Simon Davey and his mentality. Player wise the capture of Darren Moore will strenghten what as been our weak link for the last 2 seasons, with Da Silva back soon and Howard hopefully staying this could be one of the best central pairings in the league. We`ll have good cover in goal and can start this season with 2 strikers who have done it at this level.

Back to Davey player selection, man management and tactics especially away from home are key to this seasons outcome. He has been given the tools he wants to do his job now lets see what he can create. Good luck.
