Is it an age thing that football no longer excites/interests me?

I have little or no interest in the Premier League

I love Barnsley and love the early rounds of the FA Cup and that's about it for British football. I still watch England but can't really say why, I certainly wouldn't spend money to see them.

My youngest son is mad on Atletico Madrid (my sister lived in Madrid for almost 30 years and followed them as the underdogs to the hated Real) and I like to watch them as well, at least they show a bit of passion and fight. We've been to a couple of their matches at the Vicente Calderon (including the Madrid derby last season) and that's a really good experience.

I miss the full blooded tackles and the crowds standing on the terraces. The last time a football match raised the hair on the back of my neck was the match against Ipswich on a tuesday just before the FA Cup semi-final tickets went on sale, we won 4-1 (Howard hat-trick) and we stood on the Ponty singing "Red Army" for the whole of the second half.

    Good post

Echoes a lot of my thoughts, particularly about the corner flag business, wasn't it Dirty Leeds that started that in the 70s and were roundly (and correctly) condemned for it?

i've gone the same way as jack tatty, hardly ever watch it on the telly anymore and this season was the first time i hadnt renewed my season ticket for years.A couple of years ago as me and our lass were walking away from the ground after yet another ***** match and i told her i was going to take her to the rugby tomorrow. We went to Castleford and loved every bit of it,stood on the terracing having a pint watching a game that never lets up takes some beating,no time wasting,no poncing around, just end to end entertainment. Both of us cant wait for the new superleague season to start
We meet up with some lads i used to work at the pit with and have a good rinse then go to the match.half the crowd have been to the pub and there is no trouble whatsoever,no 'your gonna get your fcukin heads kicked in',nothing.Supporters take the pi55 out of one another but thats as far as it goes.

until the season starts i'll still put myself through the ritual of going to oakwell but the enjoyment just isnt there anymore, its a habit i cant get shut of

I've lost all interest in watching the champions league. I used to watch it regularly when I was younger, I can (vaguely) recall many games I watched between about 1995 and 2005 in both the champions league and UEFA cup. But I have no interest in this whatsoever now.

I can't get excited over the Premier League either. I'll watch the occasional game on a Sunday afternoon, but I stress the word occasional. I think the last premier league game I watched was Man Utd vs Chelsea, which I think was about mid October time. I don't watch Match of the Day or the Football League Show as they don't interest me either.

My interest for international football is waning; I usually watch England qualifiers, or as ty least have them on in the background but rarely watch friendlies.

Aside from the reds, the only time I get excited about watching football is in the FA cup, or a major international championship. But when I was at school, I had to watch as much football as possible, I had to know every player, every league and every team. I had every video game, several types of boots and many football shirts. I even used to get up an hour early for school on a Wednesday morning so I could watch the Argentine league highlights.

Maybe that was just a phase I went through when I was younger, but I certainly don't have that enthusiasm anymore. I don't even watch our highlights if we don't win anymore, nevermind Velez Sarsfield vs Argentinos Juniors.

Don't know if its an age thing though im the same age give or take as the OP. I don't have Sky so dont waych much or have any real interest in the game outside of the mighty reds. I watch MOD maybe once a month and the FA cup final thats it really. The divorce between the players and us normal mortals is too great. That link between fans and players the sense of community is gone. I mourn it. But Sky and greed killed it and there's no going back

I've started to watch local football again (when I can) and enjoy both the game and the social aspect.

I am not the slightest bit interested in the Premier League or International football......you could write a Thesis on what is wrong about the professional game.

I never watch any football at all apart from Barnsley (or England in the World Cup) and never have. I don't know how I have maintained my interest with Barnsley this long as none of my friends at all, or husband, like football.

Aye every game I av been to is in Europe so achieved that anall.

Good point, nice reminder, I didn`t manage the flight over to Nottingham, but think I saw us lose to Derby?

I was as you know dreaming of European Cup or Cup Winners Cup and not the European equivalent of the Johnstone Paint Trophy.

I prefer watching the lower league games. Always watch the Conference games, and I enjoy them more than the Premiership.

As been said, football no longer connects with the public as it did when I was younger.

I too have lost it with proffesional football. Foreigners knocking young English players down the pecking order. Can't even pronounce half their names and no connection with fans...BUT I have found it with non league football. I have started supporting Worksop Town. They nearly went bust and crashed out of the NPL to the NCEL - another story. However, we are pulling good crowds and over 100 fans to away games. Great league with Tadcaster and Shaw lane just above us. Two young reds playing for us young Jake Scott and Shilllito just signed. Most of our players were kicked out of their Academys. Good English lads giving 110% every week and look forward to the away game at Athersley Rec on 20th ...all for a fiver. Or do I watch the Reds againgst the Orient where some players give 70% not to mention the entrance fee and the cost of counselling afterwards.

Strange as it seems seeing the new Man City training complex confirms football is fooked. It says money is the ultimate way of securing success and the number of clubs at this level is small.

No longer a level playing field.
