I've got an idea.

Play with 3 full backs & two centre halves.
One of the full backs can then follow Paul Reid around & tidy up for him.

Job done.

We've been susceptable to the straight long ball for as long as I can remember ...

I think that the promotion season when Arjan was cutting them out was the last time we didn't look like a bag of spanners with simple long balls.

... Handyside & Ireland?
They won everything in the air ... but their legs didn't work - so nippy little forwards used to just run through them & score at will.
Possibly one of the worst pairings we've had ... but both would've done a job with a different type of centre half beside them.

Defending is gay anyway.

Although it pains me to say it I'll give you that one. I thought Ireland was alreet as a centre half.

Defending by the way is considerably more manly than poncing around in midfield. Just so we're clear on that.
