You don't have to go to football to hear foul language ...

..... my lads 12 and if he hasn't heard every swear word there is to hear at school, then I'm Margaret Thatcher. Not saying it's good, but it's today's society, most women swear like convicts these days, never mind blokes at football

chanting de dar is just having a go at a city whose people all have

... the same speech impediment. The term 'scab ' has a far deeper meaning

Yes but half of them chanting it won't have a clue what its on about..

They will think its just a nickname like the Pikeys, pigs etc....

Bring on the hostile atmosphere thats what l say, it worked against the Pigs at home when the majority of their defence began to lose it towards the end of the game near the Ponty end.

Well I seem to remember them supporting ......

........ the steelworkers in 1979, I have some recollection of some NUM members on the picket lines in Sheffield, but I could be wrong.

What I would say, is that if the TUC had been more proactive in supporting the causes of all the industries when they came under Thatchers attacks in the late 70's and 80's, I suspect the NUM would have been at the forefront of that support

Oh, so having a go at a speech impediment is fine? But scab not?

Right I'm starting to understand. Can you clear up a few more for me?

Is it ok to call someone from Doncaster a Pikey? Welsh - sheep shagger? Liverpool - theives and people who dont want jobs? And on and on . . .

Sorry, didn't pick up on that. I agree, they dont.

Its just a chant to try and wind them up inside a football ground. Like, I'm guessing, the scab chants are to the vast majority of Barnsley fans . . .

A rare weekend off. Youngest son supports Blackburn, unfortunately, but then I'm never at home to take him to Oakwell. He's been badgering me to take him to Ewood for months now, so here we are. It's cheaper, by the way, to watch Blackburn-Spurs in the Premiership than it was when I took him to the Blackpool game the other week. Madness.

On the other hand, loads of steelworkers, railwaymen ...

....... etc. supported the miners didn't they? Er no, they didn't!

It just doesn't happen mate unless it's co-ordinated, like I said, the majority of miners (except Notts) would have supported any cause if that had been the culture, but the TUC were far too moderate for that so they let everybody fend for themselves. End result, Maggie and her cronies walked all over the whole of the TU movement, mainly by overcoming the miners gallant resistence, and the rest, as they say, is history

    Very ignorant Leeds Tyke

The miners always supported other workers. Grunwick, steel workers, railwaymen, power station workers etc. It's a disgrace that it was never adequately reciprocated in their hour of need.

Yes they did. The miners had a history of showing solidarity with other workers.
