Or a bit like comparing Man City's results in the Champions League for this season with Nottingham Forest's results in the European Cup dating back to 1979 and concluding that Forest are the better team. Statistics eh..
This is where people get it wrong. He didn’t get an easy ride from fans because he’s from town, he got it because of what he had to deal with. Name me another team in England’s top 4 leagues that’s lost half their team in January? It doesn’t normally happen. It’s happened to us twice in 5 years. Having to be manager & chief exec at the same time, working without enough coaches, stating in press conferences the system you want to play & the types of players you need & then them not been brought in. No experience been signed. Having transfer windows is actually a negative for a Barnsley manager as every time we get a decent player we sell them or at least try to. Morais also has Moore & McBurnie so has a massive advantage. He should be getting significantly more points than Hecky did. He’s also got a bigger squad & hasn’t had the injuries that meant Isgrove, Gardner, Cavare, Pinnock barely played under Heckingbottom
I'm not sure why folks are getting their nickers in a twist over this. I didn't argue that the current stats actually prove anything - just that they represent all the information we have to go on at the moment. Morais might turn out to be the greatest manager we've ever had. Who knows?
We don't have much statistical information to go on at all so I think it would be unfair on Morais to read anything into it. What I will say is that he hasn't had that new manager "bounce" but I don't think we can hold that against him with this group of players.
Hecky did get a easy ride from Most because he was from The town. Case in point look at the criticism Jose as got so soon. I quite like Jose, like his positivity but let’s see. But sadly I feel to some he can’t do anything right.
You talk as though those last 4 are world beaters when in reality they are rarely competent enough. It’s all well and good claiming we should be getting more points because we have McBurnie but we are still suffering from defending and goalkeeping that isn’t good enough, often enough
I would question all that and our fitness levels, when too many players looked knackered far too early and struggle to last ninety minutes. Would think those data packs they wear would tell management our players aren't fit enough.
I agree about the goalkeeping. It’s a bit of a concern that we’ve got better forwards now but have started leaking more at the back. I don’t think they’re world beaters but they’re decent footballers at least on a level with the rest of the squad & give us more options. I think people often forget for example that McCarthy & Pearson who are now probably both 5th choice full back & centre back had to be our first choice full backs for the first 2 months of the season due to injuries to Yiadom, Cavare & Fryers. Whether it’s happening or not is a different thing but there should be a lot more hunger in the squad & competition for places now we’ve got about 25 senior pro’s & less injuries.
One thing I say about Jose he brought Thiam into side again and he set some goals up. Potts looks better under him to
I agree totally. If I didn't know better I'd suspect that there are some parochial blinkered people who need to lift their heads up beyond the immediate horizon and realise that different doesn't necessarily mean bad and outsiders shouldn't always be treated as suspect.
I don't know if people were hoping for an old school blood and thunder English manager or a Johnno type bullshitter. Some to seem to be suspicious of not anyone not from Barnsley being interested in Barnsley FC. I think the appointment was brave and forward thinking. Will it keep us up? Probably not but I think survival would have been unlikely regardless of the manager.
Yes, a bit. But its all just pontificating on here really. He's not getting the 'boo' treatment at games. And as a fanbase, its a bit natural and to be expected that the fans are going to find people to stick a blame flag on - we appear to be about to be relegated. My opinion is that he hasn't over impressed me so far, but neither has he convinced me he's useless. Its a bit meh as far as the boss is concerned. But it is far far too early to know one way or the other, regardless of whether we survive or not. He could be the best manager we ever had. He could be Spackman mk2. How on earth can we tell in 8 games, at the foot of the table, with a poor squad of players of which he signed none of them. For what its worth, I reckon that we may never know for sure because it wouldn't suprise me one bit if he walked in the summer rather than face life in the third tier.
