There's at least two common denominators in the last few years. And not one is Micky Mellon.

First season under Keith, Luke was injured for most of the second half of the season. You know, that half when we won two of eighteen games and nearly went down. POTY though, was Luke.

Last season, he wasn't deemed fit enough at the start and we had Gonzalez and Alnwick (and Bobby) in goal. They were ***** (except Bobby). Luke was brought back in and under Flitcroft he was as good as he's ever been, crucial he was in certain games late on in the season. Brighton, Wolves and Forest games stand out.

This season, Flitcroft punished him by offering him a 12 month deal on reduced terms. Along with Bobby. He cited his age. Thankfully, the board stepped in and both he and Bobby received contracts more suitable to their status. So Flitcroft dropped Luke after our early hammerings, and blamed him in front of the entire squad in the dressing room post-Blackburn. He then recruited the oldest player to represent us in 127 years of BFC. The ******* tosspot. But that 42 year old soon broke down and so he somehow convinced the board to recruit Butland who proved to be no better than Steele. He was in goal during our so-called 'easier run' of fixtures.

Flitcroft was bulleted and after Butland's loan ended, Luke returned and has been one of our most consistently decent performers.

It's not lost on me that the first season that the management have tried dispensing with Steele, Foster and Hassell that we're sat at the bottom of the table after 35 games and staring relegation in the face. Not lost on me at all.
