Is someone going to explain

It's a considerably greater generalisation to assume that the body of Forest fans turning up for a game today had anything to do with the events of 30 years ago, so the justification for shouting abuse at them in relation to it is pretty weak.

Never forget history, but don't point the finger at the wrong people.

 

It's a chant aimed at opposing fans. In our case it's an obvious one given the Miners Strike, I'm not an Inbred Dingle moron with 6 fingers, but that's what our South Yorkshire neighbours call us. and I don't take it as abuse. As I've said earlier, The sign on song that Forest chant (actually first sung by them to Scousers in the early 80s) doesn't bother me either, but probably the people who it does effect probably can't afford to go to the game either.

I am yet to come across anyone who I know personally who went through it and was affected to now forgive and forget.

 

I don't see anyone advocating forgiving and forgetting anything.

However, some of us are trying to point out that chanting 'scab' at a bunch of Forest fans today is about as relevant, and equally misguided, as chanting 'Nazi' at a group of German tourists.

 

I never said I was going to and indeed this thread isn't about that it posed the question do some of our younger supporters know what they're talking about some do some don't. Emotions are still raw for a lot of people and to say understand they know nothing of what they speak is a generalisation.

Football fans baiting the opposite fans is about either exploiting perceived weaknesses or commemorating common ground.

 

I'm 24 & have a good understanding of what happened thanks to a Dad & 2 Grandad's who suffered through it.

If I want to shout 'scab' I will.

Not everyone under the age of 30 has no understanding of local history & believe it or not some of us have taken notice of what our parents & grandparents went through.

I'd argue that the only '******' around here is you for starting such an ignorant thread.

 

Im 29 and I know everything about the strike and how it affected folk.. im sure dads and grandads have have told their kids ect ect....ill be in full voice. I hate the lot of em

I do!! If Nelson Mandela could forgive and forget after the horrors of apartheid, and not in any way devaluing the horrendous situation that many endured during the miners strike, then so should all those who went through it. The alternative is that we get multi-generational stand-off' such as Catholic vs Protestant, Christian vs Muslimvs Jew, Sunni vs Shi-ite etc etc,

Do you who advocate teaching kids to chant 'Scab' really want to bequeath that legacy to your kids and their kids?

By means, tell them about it, explain what happened without leaving out the bad stuff, and if you had personal bad experiences include those by all means but don't preach hatred as we all know where that leads.

 

Who said anything about preaching hatred. It is a chant that's probably only used at Barnsley v Forest games. It's not a big deal why dwell on it. The people that are embarrassed/on their high horse about it, get a life or do you have a bigger agenda?. I don't get embarrassed/offended by any chants at a football match, I don't like racism and other phobic type chants and hopefully those who do this are dealt with. I doubt other fans are embarrased about what their own sing about us or any other opposition.
