if Val goes, reckon Mowatt will as well.

Board need to keep him full stop. Hate to say this after such a great season but this could smash the momentum we have built up and we end up battling at the other end of the table next season. I'm just worried that we won't find another equal or better replacement for him should this happen.

Come on Val, kick em in to touch.

Had a similar experience with David Prutton. And his wife was actually there having to watch it as well!

Yeah that's fair dos. And it could be seen as a bit of an indictment on Barnsley, if he accepts a job that Appleton turned down. I think people just assume that West Brom will have the clout.

There is something that doesn't add up with this tweet though. "Talks ongoing with #barnsleyfc" and "prepared to pay the £2m buyout". If the latter is true, the former become redundant, as there aren't any talks to have with the club.

Think it would be a bad move form him as well.

Official line was he believed in the Lincoln project and have just had more money invested and Langdon Donovan is getting involved too on a an advisory role.
I’m hearing other bits though that he didn’t like look of what what WBA were offering and expecting in terms of results and investment in team(although from a reasonable source nothing to support that though).

Being prepared to pay the £2 million is different to going straight in with £2 million. Makes sense you'd enter talks in case there was a negotiation to be had that avoided the full clause being paid.

Personally I hope he stays and we pay the very upper limit of what we can to keep him.

But, if these reports are true, he'd go there on a massively improved contract and inherit a Premier League squad. The omens aren't good.

Sounds like they want him but they don’t want to pay the £2m

Think we need to up our buyout release clause a bit going forward. Can’t be many clubs that turn over head coaches at the same rate we do.

But having it known that you're prepared to pay that fee doesn't do much for negotiating position.

FWIW, I think the expectation of league position and style of play, along with the fact the squad haven't had a high intensity pressing game drilled into them by previous coaches, would make this a poor move for him.

I suspect with each one, we will. if val does leave, I imagine the clause on the next guy will be higher.

I like Doug but his tweet seems a bit contradictary.
There have been no talks ....... but the £2m release hasn't been met.
    ???
    So it is either:
'There HAVE been talks but the release hasn't been met'
    or
'There have been NO talks therefore the release debate isn't relevant'

The whole purpose of us having a buyout clause isn't to put people off though, its to make profit when they go.

He usually knows his stuff. If val goes heads will drop all the players speak highly of him and I would be alot less confident in mowatt staying.

Just thought the same, but to be fair, the Torygraph quote was a bit odd as well.

I’m not saying for a second that it’s not about profit, it obviously is. But a release clause is also a tool to attract a higher class of manager as a contractual promise to not stand in their way of a suitable offer comes in.

Surely they want to make more profit? 2m is chicken feed to any club especially ones coming down with parachute payments. Other issue is at some point the next manager isn’t going to be so successful and then won’t be worth the buyout anyway and then 2m starts to not look a great profit margin when league position and player values become lower due to it and you have a coach not being a relative success compared to his predecessor.

    This is purely my opinion.
I don't know if I could put up with another year or more of whatever you call it, hoofball, vertical football, which some may find exciting but I don't. A lot of the time it seemed so aimless.
Yes we got to the playoffs but I cannot imagine what would have become of us in the Prem, had we been lucky to get through. The coach dictates the tactics and if he were to leave us then I personally wouldn't be too fussed. You will say otherwise.
If he stays then I will endure what happens, he may change the style of play now he knows we are a more stable team. I hope so.
We may get another coach that plays a similar style, or it could be worse ! Or it could be better !
    That was purely my opinion.
