Mmmm lets see now...

...we are, by most opinions 10 to 15 places above where we should be.
We play attractive, tight football that does the club credit and generates respect from our peers and betters.
The academy has, historically offered the first team little or no input and has not provided the next Wayne Rooney that we can sell on for a profit.
Whilst I appreciate the need to generate talent from within in the hope that it can bolster the first team, currently it is not.
Keep it sure, but lets not fret over it.

It raises serious questions about the academy

if they aren't going elsewhere and making it. I think many are playing non-league though when they leave us, rather than just going down a division.

Makes you think itmight be garbage in, ... becausea few years ago we were in a bit of a state. The current academy is reaping the (lack of) rewards of scouting some years ago ... when the whole club was floundering around a bit.

What age do we sign kids on at?

I think your point represents a problem with the state of english football at the moment rather than a Barnsley FC problem. If given the option of a team with academy lads or foriegn lads, i would only choose local lads if they were good enough and better than what could be brought in from else where. Having a team of academy grown players is surely not the option if it makes Barnsley a worse team?

I feel that when things are going well at the club, some people will clutch at straws for something to moan about.
