Is be a bit creeped out - there must be a specific reason he remembered you. Id be wondering what that reason was!
Yes definitely a small world. 20 years ago me and my partner at the time got food poisoning in Zante, but the symptoms only started when we were on an overnight excursion to Athens, 40 degrees wrapped up in a blanket shivering, spewing the Works. Somehow the ex managed to call for help, a lovely couple went and got us water, pills and checked we were ok, absolute saints. Fast forward 12 months I was on a flight to Puerto Vallarta (Pacific Coast of Mexico) and we stopped to refuel in Florida and were allowed to stretch our legs in a little area with a bar and toilets etc. During this 45 min refreshment break a tap on the shoulder and the words "you look alot better than this time last year" unbelievably it was the same couple who had looked after us when poorly in Athens. We hadn't kept in touch we just thanked them for their generosity the day after getting ill and remembered they were from Birmingham, but how freaky they should choose to holiday, same time, same place, same flight, 12 months on. Thankfully they didn't have to repeat looking after us post zante rat burger this time. Very small world
We went to a Turkish market this summer near Side. We were told to go to it because it was where the locals went so it was better than the tourists ones. We went to a herb and spices stall that had all the spices piled up like pyramids - the guy asked where we were from, "England" we replied, he instantly replied "Barrrrrnsley?" stunned l replied back "we are actually" turned to the missus and said "WTF?, out of all the places he could have picked..." He then tried to flog us some spices for €25 so l made the international gesture for "ar much" and made for the exits.
My only cup Final was Spurs V QPR 81ish. would have given anything to see Barnsley V Portsmouth in 2008.
I remember it. Aged 8 1/2. Why? Our neighbours had got a colour TV. They went on holiday and left the key so me and my Dad could watch. I remember being absolutely blown away by this televisual feast and I'm fairly sure my Dad was on to Radio Rentals not long after to get ours upgraded, no doubt to something the weight of a fully laden Land Rover. 4 buttons. BBC1, BBC2, Yorkshire and Tyne Tees.
I am going total shot in the dark, here, given it was the year before I was even born, but….was it Bruce Forsyth? I just remember my Grandmother telling me, as Bernard Cribbins did Abide With Me (87 or 88) that she remembered Brucey in the 70s before a cup final
was it.... Rolf Harris? Harry Secombe? Leslie Crowther? Des O'Connor Shirley Bassey I give in... who was it?
Was in Chivey ( think av spelt right) in Peru at a natural spa when a scoucer shouted to his mate to come over..not only was he my nieces drama teacher but he did the panto were she was lead and we were in the audience..
Can't remember the last one I watched Ian. I've looked at the list and genuinely can only recall the wimbledon win. 88. And prior games. To 65.
I appreciate that, but we have already agreed a three month interest free payment plan. My first 3.333p is due by 4th January.
When I was managing a nursing agency in London, me and the missus went up to Robin Hoods Bay for the week. One day we walked to Whitby using the old railway route. For a mile or so we didn’t pass anybody, but then we spotted this couple walking towards us. When we met them me and the bloke, without saying hello, started talking about whether he was getting enough work and where he was mainly working. It was one of my Australian nurses. A few years before this, when I was living in Brighton and working in A&E I was on an early shift and got the bus to work. There were only a few people on the bus, all clearly nurses heading to the hospital. I heard two of them talking and when there was a pause in their conversation I asked one of them if she was from Barnsley, knowing she clearly was, as I had heard her speaking. Turns out she was two years above me at Holgate and had been in the same form as my cousin.
Quick, call Mulder and Scully. Seeing an Englishman abroad, bumping into someone you've met before... there's some proper spooky stuff going off in this thread and no mistake.
