Good post Y.N. unfortunately though you will not get through to some of these "Nice people" who are unable to see the wood for the trees. These persons who you mention, and more, constantly believe the s.hit fed to them by shepherd and to a lesser degree Ritchie. I would ask,in the event it all goes pear shaped, to look back at postings on the 21-22 and 23rd of June. Wath red and Bolton red to be added to that list. They too will be reminded of their distorted cognitions and how they got it wrong. I just wonder if some of these people are in jobs where they deal with individuals based upon assessement and perception. God forbid.:pff :pff :pff :pff

    For fook's sake.

I keep asking everyone who is raising an eyebrow at our prospects for this season - what do Barnsley have to fear from a league so similar in quality to League 1 that it took us 5 fooking years to get promoted back into it after being relegated!?!?!

For God's sake man, remember what this division is! Remember how mediocre it always seemed when we were last in it!! It hasn't changed!! Get a grip!!!

We go into this season with, at the very least, a slightly better squad than last year, and every chance of consolidating, with the right attitude. Your's isn't it.

"We have such a poor wage structure that no one wants to come. So this has to be altered."

    just one thing -

    no it can't.

gordon shepherd is a fan - just like you

he is also an extremely succesful businessman - not like you.

i would trust his judgement on the clubs cash flow over you.

i think thats a fairly reasonable stance to take.

we must be cautious - that is frustrating but it is just the way it has to be. The consequences of an unsuccesful risk are too grave.

and your second "point" about AR and GS not "selling the club".

what is this based on YN. You have absolutely no evidence that we have been at a stage with a player where he was about to sign but then backed out because the club wasn't "sold" to them. Absolutely none.

Further so the intimation that people who are trying to be optimistic don't support the club is just inane and you are making yourself look pretty stupid with comments like that.

We have blown our chances of automatic promotion over the last 6 games or so
Even though we have the best squad in the division
But with lack of bite and willingness to win in the side we are not ready for the play offs
How big a disappointment would it be to get into the play offs now only to be slaughtered at the first fence
As far as I am concerned the season finished since the game at Bournmouth
For me they can wrap it up for this season

    As Bassett proved

It's quality not quantity of players that counts.

We'll only know if the players have the quality to step up a devision when we see them play. As Richie said, he wants to give the squad that got promoted a chance to prove themselves.

    RE: So.....

The way forward is one of sense and sensibility. meaning we cannot afford to be irresponsible with our expenditure but, by the same token, be so short sighted that we fail to recognise the importance of a quality striker. Of course Ritchie is saying much in the way of neccessity but appearing not to be too successful in his endeavours.Yet on the otherhand I am mindful of the need to balance the books and yes there is a need to rid the club of debt but, unfortunately it cannot be done in one fell swoop and I suspect this is what shepherd is trying to do. I feel that whatever action is taken to eliminate the financial problems it must be done in a calculated and meaningful way in a manner of sense and sensibility over a period of time but not too long a time so as to make us financially vulnerable again. All of what I say is pure conjecture and guess work and unless you are in a more priviledged position to state otherwise then you too operate from that podium. The way forward therefore is by replacing the players who have already left with additions to those already having been brought in, i.e. a quality striker. With that in mind I feel that we would have a fighting chance.

    RE: So.....

    No problem with that.

As far as balancing the books he HAS to unless PC decides to chip in.

As for my knowledge that's only based on reading the accounts. The club results are as stated in the Chron, but you have top take into account Oakwell Community Assets, the company which owns the land. There are loans outstanding of £1.5m which if not repaid by 25th Oct 2006 will attract interest at 2.5% above base rate. Now this does not mean that the loans HAVE to be repaid by that date but interest of say £100K approx will need servicing. OCA only source of income to my knowledge is BFC who it is likely it may have to charge rent to service the interest never mind the capital.

I can understand why GS needs to run a tight ship, and bear in mind it is not for his benefit it's for the future of the club.

    That's never right surely ?

The club gets split from the assets and is then charged for using those assets ?

Im pretty sure the club always said they would have to pay rent on the stadium and land. Its not ideal though is it. We used to own the most land of any club in the country. A little bit of debt, and we lost all the land and are still in more debt now than we originally were. Well done everybody involved, especially the administrators.

Does anybody know who OCA owe the loan money to?

Compared to us at the moment this league is full of quality.

Or maybe we know better than the bookies.

I don't know the details precicely so this is conjecture, but I'm sure BMBC lent a million/million and a half to OCA. Now why the football club are liable for this is what baffles me if it's true.
