Lets be honest. No club is going to pay a million quid for a keeper who has hardly played any first team games. The most likely explanation for Richie preferring Colgan is that his distribution is better. When you haven't got a target man up front its important that the kicking is good from the keeper. That is definately one of Colgans strengths.
If we waited too long... he'd be out of contract and we'd get nothing for him at all. There's probably some bits of truth in all these theories. He didn't have the same down-time as the other players; he's off with England again after the Colchester game. Great prospect - I hope that we get the chance to see at least the beginning of the best of him and I hope he has a mentor somewhere who is keeping him off the drink, drugs and dames which ruin so many promising young players. Isn't it great to have such an instant success story from the academy, though! Go on, admit it!
Man Utd just paid 3 million pounds for a 23 year old from Stoke City who'd never played a first team game for them.
2 reasons. We'd get a fee anyway as he's under 24. A longer contract will make no difference to the fee we'd get. However, if he was just a flash in the pan then we're not tied to paying out the remainder of a 2 or 3 year deal like we've been with so many other players. It makes sense to me.
And ... ... according to my goalkeeping coach mucker - Man U paid £1m for Ben Foster, not £3m. Even with appearance add ons it's less than £1.5m. And they loaned him out to Watford immediately - something that any big club would do with Scott if they bought him. I don't know what my point is.
RE: And ... You were saying Flinders int that good. Seeing as only a cruel twist of fate prevented you being the next Lev Yashin, what's his faults?
Ho ho You expecting a critique of a professional footballer that means anything from old safe hands ?
More chance of duplicitious Dan being normal.

Errr. That's not what I was saying at all. My point was that if a 'big club' were coming in for Scott - surely they would want to loan him out for experience ... but he can't get in our team at the moment - so I think the '£1m for Flinders' debate is, just like Dirk, premature. I think Flinders will be an excellent keeper - he has very few technical flaws. But I also think putting Colgan in goal this season makes sense. Cue idiots saying ''but Scott blah blah blah''. I could have been a contender.
''He runs like a spaz'' I think that's what I said. 12 times. Only WW2 stopped my playing career from blossoming.
RE: Errr. Agree entirely. Personally, I would have started him but I can see the argument for playing Colgan. His kicking and distribution is good. Also, managers are renowned for playing 'old pros' above the youngsters because it is much easier for them to drop the young 'uns ..... or 'rest them'.
RE: Ho ho Did he mention if Nardy's arse had any 'technical flaws' ?
Very much so Ron.
TFP and Barry Venison, same dress sense, same football knowledge. Both appalling.

Yep. I've forgotten more about footy than you'll ever know. Stick to what you know best - standing on tip toes. I lie. My favourite sport is 3 day eventing. Being a goalkeeper is like making love to a beautiful woman ...
The time will come ... ... when Scott cannot be kept out of the team. In my opinion - that time has not arrived. A 19 year old keeper is about as reliable as a 30 year old dodgy 4th choice Irish International. I think he will be sold to Chelsea for £32m, Tiago & a packet of fishermans friends.
