I really don’t get why some people really have a go at Walton. He is 22 and very much on a learning curve. Yes he makes mistakes but he also makes more than his fair share of good saves. Compare him to Radlinger last season who let in far more than he saved, and Collins whilst better than Radlinger was not particularly impressive. Though again a young keeper.
Jack made 1 mistake and 3 top class saves today. The mistake cost us a goal the saves ensured all 3 points. Why aren’t people having a go at Styles for costing us a goal at the other end. That was just as costly as Jacks error ( I am not saying we should be just pointing out the double standards)

    ˄˄˄˄ This.
Not sure what more he could have done, touch the ball and he's off, touch the player and he's off. 9 times out of 10 the ball would have ricocheted off him and there would have been no goal scoring chance; it was the Hillsborough pox that enabled the goal.

With regard to their goal, that is not what any team's keeper should ever do.

He might as well not have been there.

He needed to thunder into it or stay on his line.

You can't excuse that action as what you'd expect from your goalie.

    But.. he's young....we won......

I like the fact that he’s not afraid to commit and come out. But when he does he needs to get it right, and there’s too many occasions where he doesn’t. It makes the centre backs nervous, thinking he might come charging out. Same with crosses. Still misses too many punches for my liking. If they can get more consistency in those areas, I think he could be a top keeper.

He's a very good young keeper, who's probably on relatively low wages for the championship, I think we should cut him some slack and enjoy watching him develop, there's not one player in our team that hasn't made mistakes this season.

Funny, I thought it was the other side too until I saw it :) He made up so much ground to get across to the ball, never mind to then keep it out. Top quality keeper.

You can't weigh up the performance of your keeper, based on what he's paid.

    Age and experience - yes.

Pay more to fill that position then there's less to spend somewhere else.
I think we're lucky to have him and that he's lucky to have the opportunity to develop with us, a perfect fit in my eyes.

Recently there are doubts creeping in.

He does need to look more assertive in his box.

    He's a great shot stopper.

Get a grip. We have a squad of young players. That’s our thing. We will make mistakes all season. If you can’t forgive that, move on.

I don’t know much about being a goalie, but I reckon his mistake was down to experience. No doubting his raw talent, but some lessons take longer to learn.. my two penneth..:)

I think he's doing alright and will only improve with experience, probably best to judge him at the end of the season rather than after a mistake.
Good points certainly outweigh the bad ones so far for me.

Well you wouldn't play anyone who was crap. I stated Ritzmaier was crap on here many many a time.

Yet he seems to be on my TV playing in European games quite regularly.

Walton would have been chief whipping boy on here if we'd not turned it round today.

With a bit of luck he got through it. I'd play him next time. But he needs to improve his all round game. Kicking too.

There is indeed a noticeable change now in that all 11 players seem to be worth their place when we kick off.

Making the odd mistake in games doesn’t mean he needs dropping and for me he’s been a consistent performer all season. At the age of 22 he’s years away yet from reaching his peak and for me he’s destined to have a great career hopefully with us Well done Jack .

It's starting to look like you don't know a good player in the making when you see one :D:D
