Can't understand some fans - When things are going well they start looking to the future for black clouds.
Yes, Butterfields contract is up at the end of the season, but rumours of him leaving and people turning on him with 'he's not that good anyway' statements are just turning on a player that's helped us get where we are now.
The future will take care of itself - Enjoy the moment!

He's a good player with a lot of potential. However, there are a lot of players with a lot of potential. Development is key.

He is going to leave, without any doubt, so we just have to use him as best as possible before the summer/poss Jan and talk him up as much as possible through the media to get the best price. We'll probably get close to a million with add ons I would expect if he continues in the same form.

    A few points...

Firstly, I imagine we've offered him £5k a week at least if we're serious about keeping him... I seriously doubt ANY Prem club that's interested in him has offered/would offer more than £15k/week (yes it's still a lot more but they won't pay someone like JB that sort of money as a basic wage - IMHO)

Secondly - he has been superb for large parts of this season - BUT - I think he's a long way off being a Prem player, certainly a regular. I think he needs two more seasons in this league first playing every week in order to maximise his potential.

Thirdly - I can understand why he'd want to leave, most people in this situation would - but I strongly believe he would make a better career and more money in the long run if he stayed at this level (preferably with us) for another year or two (unless this 4 months is a flash in the pan...). Look at Hammill - who certainly for me was a better player last Aug-Dec than Butterfield has been this season. Had Hammill continued as he was for us he would have got a move to a bigger club than Wolves and been paid more and probably played more.

Ultimately, BFC will survive whatever happens and I'm sure Hill already has a replacement(s) in mind - quite possibly Assulin, at least in the short term.

We already have replacements - Matty Done, Reubenio and Digger.. AND, Keith will find us a few more polishable turds in January. Oh, and maybe Gai on loan yes.
Good luck to Jacob either way. He's having a fine season

If possible we need to keep our best players of which Jacob is one, hopefully he will sign a contract if only to see out this season, im not sure why people think he will leave, maybe the next several games will determine whether he stays or leaves. I hope this team keeps on building week on week and lets see what happens eh lads. COYR

Re: Sounds like he's starting to believe his own hype

Someone's sent him a link to this site on his twitter.

I'm wondering what he means by "l'll prove the HATERS wrong?" Is he meaning the people on facebook/twitter or is meaning the doubters in this thread who say he isnt ready for the Premiership yet? Bit harsh from him if he means this thread, l wouldn't really call them haters. On a positive note he could mean he'll prove the haters wrong who think he'll go for the money and 5 minutes of fame and sign a contract at Oakwell?

At the end of the day the people on this forum will be here following the Reds long after any of these players or management have moved on so either way we'll have to see come January and if he goes, he goes if he stays then fair play, he remembers who gave him his chance in football.

hope butterfield decides to stay, even if just to the summer as he his having a good season so far, but if he decides to head for the bright lights then good luck to him, he will join the long list of "star" players to leave oakwell for better things, just hope for his sake he doesnt join the long list of "star" players that have done **** all since leaving oakwell
