Yep two narrow.. so both in the middle for crosses from wide. At least giving us a chance of scoring.
I personally wouldn’t give him more than a monthly rolling contract following a trial, let’s be honest and admit he is only here because of an old pals act. No one else seems to want him, so maybe he his past it
Strange question when we are discussing Jacob Butterfield , not sure why you are asking for an excuse for the two players mentioned ? but if you want to discuss them then why do you not start a thread & put it up for discussion ? , have you actually got anything constructive to say about Jacob the actual subject of the thread ?
I’d have him back. Would help us out this season. Even if it’s just having him around the place on low wages if he isn’t fit yet. Hull are reaping the benefits bringing back Tom Huddlestone to add that experience to their young midfield and have since won four on the bounce since he came back from his injury.
Not to disrespect Jacob you can't really compare his career with Tom Huddlestone. If the manager thinks he can do a job then by all means give him a short term contract but I'm skeptical. His weakness was lack of mobility, and I can't imagine the injuries and years have improved that.
I'm not sure this is totally true, but only time will tell. He had no time to work with the squad for the first two games, so I think he addressed tightening up at the back first. Nearly worked in Game 1, until they scored after 70+ minutes and heads went down. It worked in Game 2. I'd like to see how midfield and attack play on Saturday, now that he has had a week to work with them.
Shows how poor our recruitments been when we are considering that this could potentially improve our squad.
I think he probably needs a couple of games with the U23s to see what he’s still got. Then it becomes less speculation and more based on what people have seen with their own eyes.
Couldn't beat Huddersfield, done by Australia at Cricket and Plan B being brought in, but finally some good news.
Wish him all the best. I thought on a pay to play basis he may have been an option. You don't need all 10 outfield players pressing. An experienced head may have worked, but I haven't seen him in training. At 31 he has something to offer for whoever he signs for.
Why? People want him because of what he did for us a decade ago. If we were being linked to someone who hadn't played for us but had recently been released by LUTON and failed in Australia and has half a dozen goals in his last 130 plus games and is in their 30s and has struggled to find another club for months, our fanbase wouldn't be as keen.
Good point.....he even got a piece in Chronicle claiming how much he loved tarn....load of crap cos first offer he had from someone else and he were off like a shot!
Its great having a experienced player but you need one thats going to be up to championship standard. Butterfield has had a good career i enjoyed him when he 1st broke onto the scene at oakwell i was sure he would be a steady premiership player and would have if not for injury, we wouldnt be getting that same player nor the one who played so well for derby. We would get the one who was relesed by luton over a year ago. Im sure if we thought he would be able to help us they would have signed him.
And where are LUTON in the Championship? Our midfield is made up of kids - a bit of experience is badly needed. But LUTON. What disrespect. We're the worst team in the league. They're miles better than us.
He signed for a club in the Premier League after suffering a serious knee injury - after also seeing the side he played in dismantled and sold. Fair play to him.
He was invited in by his former teammates, Bobby and Martin to tick over until something came up for him, and to help out with the 23s, as he's looking to do his coaching badges etc. He's spent the last month here, training with the 23s. There was never going to be an opportunity for him to earn a first team contract at Oakwell. Good luck to him at his new club. I'm looking forward to watching him do his thing again. He's 31, arguably in his prime. It's only deemed 'old' because we support Barnsley, where I'm older than every player here, and the entire coaching staff. And I'm not 40. Yet. I hope he returns to Oakwell in the future to work in the Academy here. He's a shining example of what can be achieved if you apply yourself as a young player.
Tbf i found the luton thing abit disrespectful but its just his opinion that he wouldnt improve our team it was 18 months ago simce luton relesed him. I dont know if he would or wouldnt improve us id be happy to find out as i think our midfield is the weakest point of the squad. Says on twitter the club had planned for him to train with the 1st team from next week but he has had a offer so we will never know.
