So now say he's on very little like 2k, i'm surprised with the cutbacks we will have been able to offer him 8k a week. But a premiership team would probably even double that for him.

I think he speaks well. He's obviously ambitious and in a great position to secure his financial future with a move to The Premier League (even if it doesn't work out).

If I were him, I'd take a 2 year contract at £15-20k per week with a Prem club. Made for life.

How can young lads resist that sort of cash, when they might get a career ending injury anytime?

    I think Jacob

Is the best player the club has produced since the youth set up gained it's Academy status. There are aspects on his game that need to be worked on, but that applies to nearly every 21 year old player. I find it baffling that some people prefer to concentrate on a young lad's so-called failings, whilst conveniently ignoring their strong points. Noble-Lazarus has already had this on here despite only being 18.
Having said all that, if Butterfield goes, he goes. I'll be sorry to see him leave, but have confidence in Keith Hill ensuring Jacob's departure has minimal impact on the team and club. After all, according to some 'experts', we got shut of our only saleable asset asset in the summer and replaced him with lower league players, who were quite obviously not up to the task of Championship football. Hill proved them wrong and I believe he'll do so again, if they believe the potential sale of Jacob Butterfield will result in Barnsley slipping down the table and into a relegation battle.

I'll be desperately disappointed if he leaves

Players like Jacob Butterfield come along all too rarely. The last young player to come through the ranks with a similar level of skill to Jacob was Steve Agnew and that was 25 years ago. We just don't get this type of player very often.

The way he can receive the ball when under pressure and make space for himself to play the pass is a joy to watch. It's premier league class. And the top end of the premier league at that. That's not to say he's the finished article, because he's not, but at 21 he's only going to get better and better.

But I don't buy the theory that he would be stupid to move on. He sounds like he's got his head screwed on to me. He desperately wants to play at a higher level and he knows he'd get a lot more money for doing that, but he's still seriously considering staying at Barnsley because he knows he's working under a good manager and he knows a big move can go sour. It's a massive decision for him. I wish him all the luck in the world whatever he decides. I don't know what the right decision is, I just know as a Barnsley supporter I'd love to see him continue his progression with us. I love watching him play.

It'll have to be a Premiership club with good bus and rail links, unless his mother drives him.

Butterfield has already said the stuff banded about is false and it annoys him. Seeing as the boy says that himself we should ignore that bit of the story, assuming it refers to the 4/5x salary offer.

He does have nice hair, it'll be a shame to see that go to a Prem club.

Agreed. Think the potential loss of Butterfield will be absorbed much better by Hill than it would've been previously.

I'm all confused now.... Never seen him before but that clip is brilliant.

Booked to see Michael McIntyre next year....have a nagging feeling will be disappointing for some reason.

I agree. Unfortunately like you I think he is very naive and will listen to agents and other influences who may not have his best interests at heart. He needs to listen to Hill and continue with his development.

Moving now could ruin his career

He isn't good enough to get regular first team football in the premiership just yet. The only way he's going to play regular football is if he is loaned back out to a championship club, so why not stay here where he is settled, at least for another couple of years to develop further. Afterall, say he gets another 2 year contract, he'll only be 23 when that one expires, still a fairly young lad.

If he goes now, he'll spend the rest of the season either bench warming or playing in someone's reserves, when he could stay here and continue to gain regular first team experience at what is still a fairly high standard of football.

I can 100% confirm he has been offered 4 x his current deal. I guess he will be on 1k now so been offered 4k a week. Would be suprised if he is on 2k, say 1.5 then 6k is a great wage.

I think we should maybe make him one last offer of 5-6k if we haven't already and try get him to stay for now. If he keeps progressing then we could get a few million for him, stick a 5 mil clause on him etc
