I was sat with a Bailey hater today. In the second half we started counting the number of misplaced passes he made. By the end of the game the final tally was zero. Every one went to a red shirt. A few were 40+ yards, over the top, straight to feet. I'm with Poet on this one.
I thought Bailey was excellent today and rather than compare whose better in Pearson or Bailey surely it's more important that we've now got strength in depth. I feared the worst when I found out Pearson and Scowen wasn't playing but I thought we coped really well.
I thought Bailey did very well today. Considering he was in a midfield 3 with 2 very attack minded players, I don't think they had too much joy through the middle, particularly in the 2nd half. The thing I've noticed with this thread is, if you like James Bailey, you don't rate Ben Pearson, which I find astonishing. Bailey had a good game today, but if Pearson is available next week, he should be in the side, same goes for Scowen.
I like Bailey. I also rate Pearson. My argument for leaving Pearson out would be he's not our player. If there's a chance we can sign him permanently then play him, but I haven't heard anything from the lad that suggests he's interested in a move to Barnsley. He believes he has a chance of getting in the Man Utd side. If he's definitely off at the end of the season, I'd play Bailey, who is more than capable. Having said all that, as O'Sullivan is going back to Blackburn and as Jennings looks more like beach ball than a football player, I'd be tempted to play all three.
I agree, I think we should start all three. It's just very difficult to find a formation that will allow us to play all three plus Waring, Winnall and Horrihane. However, I don't agree with dropping Pearson just so we can help develop Bailey, not at this stage of the season when we're fighting for a playoff place. We should be playing our best team possible. The same goes for John over Smith.
Bailey came in and did a competent job has he did last time he was called upon, that's what I want from a squad player(and they`re all squad players by the way). It meks the gaffers job even harder. I aint a Bailey fan by any stretch of the imagination, he frustrates the **** art of me wi his sideways, backwards when under no pressure and his often refusal to gain ground running into the space that's opened up in front of him, but credit were credit is due the last few games I have seen him there has been an improvement.
Bailey's best qualities are ALWAYS making himself available, which is so important to how LJ wants us to play. Every player can play with confidence and take risks knowing that if nothing else is on Bailey will always be there. His next best quality is his passing range. From 6 yard passes to 40 yard passes he is by far the best we have. That doesn't mean he is better or worse then Scowen, Pearson, Hourihane or anyone else. It just means in those two aspects he is better. We should appreciate what he is good at and not berate the fact that he is not as good as Messi at dribbling. He is just a one option in a very competitive midfield.
Bailey couldn't lace Scowen or Pearson's boohits. poor mans Ray Wilkins.....as in 'like a crab' ......goes sideways. he did ok saturday...thereev thought Declan John was poor defending and C.Stewart poor trying to score a sitter!!
A team full of Scowens may beat a team full of Baileys, but a team with them both in would beat them all..
He's too good looking which means everyone hates him. If he was an ugly lovely person then he'd be our captain.
Bristol are the top team in the Division and we gaffered them n all under that there Danny Wilson feller. As for the Pearson/Bailey debate - they're two very different players. Bailey just sits in that holding role whereas Pearson will venture forward at pace if the opportunity arises. Pearson can get the crowd motivated with his darting forays - something Bailey never does. There's no way Bailey could have scored that goal Pearson bagged against Port vale when he ran the length of the pitch.
