To me its completely different because one is an innocent woman who has been murdered because of her beliefs, the other is a pre-meditated murderer who would be put down as a punishment for his unspeakable actions.

Ive never said prison isnt a punishment, I certainly wouldnt like it but for such vile crimes, the death penalty should be an option.

Even though her whole existence ( apart from her family life) was against it.

I bet you'd demand bacon sandwiches at a Muslim funeral .

The difference as I see it is ideology. The IRA and ISIS cannot be compared in terms of the ideology that drives them. It's absolutely nothing to do with colour - the IRA weren't exclusively white Catholics.

The attack on Jo Cox seems a fairly logical extension of the race hatred and anti immigration rhetoric that the right has been stirring up. It's sad but not unsurprising that someone unhinged reacts to provocative ideas put forward by opportunists like Farage.

Plus there's a bit of common sense. I don't think there are many people out there killing somebody and expecting to get caught. The vast majority think they'll get away with it and that means that they don't care if the punishment is death, prison or 20 years strapped to a seat on the halfway like at bramall lane because they don't think they're going to do any of those punishments.

I'd hazard a guess that if you brought in the death penalty you would actually get a few people committing murder as a way of suicide knowing that they would end up dead themselves. Suicide by cop for example is quite popular in america

Let's also not forget the many mass killings on the reason that they've killed once and gonna fry may as well carry on.
This has been the reason given in quite a few domestics then turned to mass indiscriminate killing sprees .

I've never thought about that but it probably explains in part why there are so many mass murderers in america
