Clearly everyone at the club believes we need another keeper, including Clarke. This doesn’t stop other transfers does it? Why shouldn’t we be looking at improving every position - and it probably allows Smith to go out on loan as well. This simply could be more about freeing Smith up than anything else. However, I don’t think Killip still is the level of keeper we need tbf. He’s done well, but I think he’s at the top of his game now - and perhaps you can’t get any more from him?
Very similar signing to Slonina on the face of it. I hope Gauci is more readied for League One football and you have to feel for Killip. Traditionally Australia produce good keepers so fingers crossed.
Very good keeper, a good lad also. Seen him play many times for Adelaide United. I know Killip has been doing a decent job, but i am chuffed to bits to have Joe
Depends on budget though doesn't it. We haven't got a pot to piss in. So we really need to cut our cloth accordingly, and prioritise areas we desperately need to improve in. Keeper is surely not one of them.
Yeah - the club know that too though. And he’s only replacing Slonina, so numbers wise no different. Smith will probably go out on loan. It’s just an overreaction by everyone. A well run club constantly looks at every position to see if they can improve it, for the right money. And that’s what we’ve done.
Really don't get the slating of this signing. Killip has done well at times but he's also made mistakes and his distribution is shocking. We should be aiming for better than him as first choice, most were slagging off the club last summer for extending his contract. I'd love to see Smith get a chance but the club clearly wants to loan him back out. I don't know if Gauci will be better but a new keeper was needed as long as he's not the only signing.
We didn't necessarily need another GK, but perhaps we aren't contributing anything to his wages? Sometimes the case when PL clubs just want them to get games. Would probably mean we have to play him though.
But Killip is doing fine. Smith is back up. There's no point in loaning someone to then loan our backup. I'm far from a club basher, but this is just not needed.
From the outside looking in it does seem a bit of a bizarre signing but maybe things will make more sense in the next day or 2,
So the recruitment team and manager have watched our last few games and their take from that was let’s get an inexperienced keeper in … oh dear
A keeper sat on the bench all season is not getting experience though if he goes out and gets game time he is. Long term it’s much better for him and the club if that happens and gets the experience needed. Costings is a different factor though TBF.

I've been praising killip alot in recent weeks he's had alot to do and made many good stops to keep us in games. His distribution isn't the best and earlier on in the season he made some mistakes that cost us. I agree we need strikers and defenders more but I think it makes sense especially if smith goes out on loan. Any keeper who comes in is going to have plenty to do the way we defend as a team.
That's an appalling quote to see from Clarke. Not one, but two, of our own players thrown under the bus. I thought he was supposed to be a good man-manager when we recruited him. The evidence I'm seeing, on and off field, seems to be the opposite.
It's genius if you think about it. 3-3-3 until end of season but ........ we are going to play two keepers. Innovation-R-Us
Agree with all that. I'm not saying he's Buffon. Just that I think we've other priorities. Hope these are addressed before Monday.
