I dont think Discotyke is being racist. The generalisation he has made is about taxi drivers not the asian population. Last time I checked taxi drivers werent a race. And another thing I will add about the asians who are taxi drivers in Leeds. They tend to be the ones who people can get drugs off. Never have I seen a white taxi driver involved. And before I get accused of being a racist generalist, this is purely an observation made over 3 years of being at Leeds uni.
It wasn't a generalisation about all taxi drivers though - you missed the "drivers of a certain persuasion". "They tend to be the ones who people can get drugs off." - Having never tried getting drugs off a taxi driver I wouldn't know. I've never had a problem with any taxi drivers, apart from those that insist on talking to you!
My point is that he wasnt generalising about the whole of the asian population. He was just posting his experiences of the taxi drivers he has come across "of a certain persuasion". And like I said about the "drugs" comment, this is an honest observation made over 3 years. And by your "Having never tried getting drugs off a taxi driver I wouldn't know" comment I presume you are trying to take the moral high ground.
No, I was making an observation. If you say that Asian drivers are the ones you can get drugs from, that does imply that you have got drugs from them, therefore it's hardly a criticism that you can level at them if you find it a useful service. You could try replying to the actual post you are refering to.
No I have never personally bought drugs from a taxi driver but that doesnt mean I havnt seen it happening regularly. Some of my friends from uni were using the service and often we were offered drugs by them while in their taxi. Along the lines of "if theres anything else you need give me a ring". Everybody at uni knew of the 'service' they provided. Apologies for not replying to your actual post but I use the flat setup so it doesnt matter on my screen.
Whats your experience of Championship footballers? Can we make some generalisations. It appears that the driver must be a liar because he's of a "certain persuasion". You're basing everything on generalisations and racial stereotypes. Is that racist? yes.
1. They charge twice the going rate on the basis you are sozzled and won't know the difference. That could be a ANY taxi driver to be fair. Old or young, black or white, it's their job and if they can earn money from somebody who has drank too much to know what they're doing then they do right. Drink responsibly and it wont happen to you. 2. If you object - then more often than not they will come down to the proper price rather than lose the fare (highlighting they were cheating you in the first place) Of course if you show that you aren't so pissed that you don't know what day it is they're going to lower the rate. 3. They lecture you on morals and encourage you to read their version of biblical events. Weird, i've never had one taxi driver of another religion (or muslim as thats clearly where you're going) try to convert me. 4. Thye 'pretend' to befriend you and establish rapport by talking to you about going out drinking, clubbing etc when they haven't got the guts to say it's against their beliefs It's called being polite, you should try it sometime. 5. They then tell you what they would like to do - in some graphic detail - with the 'trash' scantily clad ladies who they see on the journey back to yourhome. Nope, i've only ever had that from fat white pervy drivers.
Sounds like a hell of a lot of taxi drivers to me Of all different shapes, sizes and colours. Apart from number 3, but I've lived in the middle of Leeds for 7 years now and never experienced that one. I have found plenty of taxi drivers everywhere to be obnoxious, rude, poor drivers and out to fleece you wherever possible. I have also had plenty that are pleasant, helpful and accomodating. To be honest with some of the people they get through their cars, I'm not surprised some are in a pissed off frame of mind when working, and I guess that carries over to the next passengers. You say that you have found most drivers in Leeds to be as you described - I have not. I find if I use a local firm I get better service than the bigger firms in the city centre - maybe you could try that? That is, so long as you're prepared to be driven by people 'of a certain persuasion' at all. Edit: If you really believe that those characteristics are true of so many Asian taxi drivers, why don't you phone the taxi company and ask them specifically for a white driver? No?
Only issue I have with Asian taxi drivers is .................... they drive too fast. Now I'm not being racist when I say that, I'm sure most taxi drivers drive too fast. It's just that I only use taxis in Dewsbury and sometimes Leeds where the drivers have always been Asian.
RE: Only issue I have with Asian taxi drivers is .................... I quite agree, a lot of taxi drivers go too fast for my liking (which is partly what I meant be 'poor drivers'), but I most certainly haven't found that to be restricted to Asian people - not by a long shot.
When we played Southampton away I got about 8 taxi's in the space of 2 days. The first one was the nicest guy ever, took me to my hotel, gave me lots of tips and hints of where to go in Southampton, easiest place for a taxi, drink, food, etc. He was brilliant, so I paid him a few pound extra over the fare. The others weren't as helpful, but just as friendly. At least 2 of them were Asian... Can't say a bad word against them. I admit I have had arsey taxi drivers before, one who was taking me home after a night out in Glasgow dropped me off 2 miles from my house because I asked him to take me to "Blantyre" instead of "High Blantyre" But, I paid, got out and walked. I wouldn't have got anything from arguing or refusing to pay apart from maybe a night in a cell.
RE: When we played Southampton away Sorry but you crease me up .... (babyhaha) ....ffs How old are you then you say.... (asshole)
