The majority of the squad signed new contracts or had clauses for a wage increase in PL. McAtee wasn’t a first team player - he’s never played a competitive match for Luton. So he’ll not be on mega bucks and is nowhere near ready for PL. Good L1 striker clearly, and could step-up to the Championship - only time will tell. Regardless, he should be within our financial reach even at L1, so long as his wage demands are reasonable.
That may well be correct. I'm guessing that they'll have relegation clauses written in, so that'll drop if they go down. However if they do get relegated they may want to hang on to McAtee. If they stay up I reckon that increases our chances of signing him, but we definitely need to get promoted.
