RE: Thanks, Johnny, and well done. yes indeed, dour as it was, there was never any thought that we could have had another manager. He was the manager and that is how the universe was arranged. Barrow at oakwell on aWednesday neet in jan.... and a thousand poor buggers without a proper life.......
RIP Johnny Steele Before my time but a true servant to the club and legend. Condolences to his friends and family.
Johnny Steele was a lovely man. He was in the same care home as my nan, we've had many a joke, laugh and natter about the good old days of BFC. Coincidentally, his funeral directly follows that of Ken Mason, another special person and lifelong Barnsley fan. Even on his last journey, Ken's sharing his day with a Barnsley legend. He was reds through and through and would be so proud to know that Johnny's following him! Up the reds Ken!
RIP Johnny, God Bless, and thanks for the memories I'll always have fond memories of Barnsley FC during the era of you as manager and that of Big Winnie as your captain.
Me too Used to live on the same street as him as a kid, Cheviot Walk, Pogmoor. When we got promoted under him a group of us went round and asked for his autograph - he invited us in and chatted to us before giving his autographs to us all. A fantastic bloke. R.I.P. Johnny, condolences to your family.
Not much I can say that hasn't been said already.............. RIP Pride of Scotland adopted Son of Barnsley.
Thank you for the memories John.

Thanks John you were a great servant and manager to Barnsley football club. You will never be forgotten. RIP (clap)
The game of today has lost the commitment and loyalty which the likes of Johnny brought to the clubs like Barnsley. And for a pittance in comparison to today's wealthy players and managers. A true loyal servant of the club - a Mr Barnsley if ever there was one
