Mark, I'mnot sure why but the first line of the post went ''Now this might not be for the easily offended so I will warn you now.''

It was quite simple also from the Title the what the post was.

I didn't go hard on him in the post above. In the last 3/4 weeks since return at Altrincham. He doesn't fit. Not got the ability to really get up and down the field for me either.

In those 4 weeks he's been our best player by a long way and scored 3 times. Once again our leading scorer and assisted. 1goalie every 3 in 60games.

And once again gets criticised by pseudo coaches. It seems to be the way of things these days to criticise your better players, top scorers, the most skilful, the most popular, the most positive, whilst conveniently ignoring the complete lack of any sort of positive contribution from others. I, for one, believe Hourihane is our best, most positive player and has been since he signed for us and we're a weaker team without him.

It's about the TEAM JLWBigLil. Just because someone scores goals doesn't mean hes good for the team. You don't play for your best player or the player who happens to score the goals. It's about about thing getting the best out of the group.

Derby on Friday night, they don't play for any single player. There most high profile players probably Tom Ince. He fits the team. Doesn't do what there head coach/ Manager wants he will find himself out of the team. Paul Clement after the game spoke about A number of things but made sure he mentioned Thorne. He doesn't get many assists or goals but he's a team man.

Yes it is about the team and different players contribute different strengths to it. How on earth can someone who is scoring goals for the team NOT be good for it? How does that not benefit the team, especially if no one else is making such a contribution? When the others are creating the same opportunities, chances, goals for their team mates, whilst at the same time as scoring themselves, like Hourihane does, then Conor must also bring the same qualities his colleagues do. I can't think of any example of a player who does so.
One of the big problems in the modern game, in my opinion, is the skilful player, the most creative, the one who can produce something out of the ordinary not in a coaching manual (whether that be a dribble, a pass, a goal) is overlooked in favour of the dull, grey, mundane but athletic player. Managers, coaches & their sycophantic acolytes in the modern game try their best to justify their salaries by turning the beautiful game into some sort of science, where individuality and creativity has no place, but athleticism and blind obedience has.
Then there's others who criticise the most popular, the most skilful, the best scorer simply to be antagonistic, to try and appear more knowledgeable than others, But if they were as clever & knowledgeable as they think they are, they'd actually be working in the profession rather than posting on an internet site. They aren't and they don't.
If it worked, following that type of philosophy, then all well and good. But it doesn't. On the international stage, England have won one World Cup and that was held in our own country. At club level in the European Cup/Champions League competition, there's only been one occasion since Aston Villa won the trophy in 1982 when an English team has triumphed in the normal manner without needing the lottery of penalties to do so. Instead we frequently fail in the major competitions, whilst at the same time make pathetic, sneering, xenophobic comments at countries and clubs who are successful.

You're wasting your time if you reply to any of my posts. I have you on ignore, at your request by the way. If you're looking for an argument with me on the BBS, it's pointless.

Hourihane definitely contributes goals, assists etc and we need him, but I don't yet think that 442 suits him. I'm no expert, but I agree with Hemsy that he doesn't get up and down the field well enough to play central in a 4.

I don't understand where hes gone with some of that Woodbine. In a TWO THEY BOTH HAVE TO DEFEND.
I don't understand where the last bit comes from. From Aston Villa, 1982 and international Football.

My eyes must be deceiving me when I see Hourihane tackling back when in a midfield two, then. If you have a problem with regards to any points I've raised, then at least have the common decency to reply to me, rather than Woodbine. I made the point, not him.
