    I can accept that (conserving energy) with many skilful players. However, what Jon conserves he must rapidly leak because it seems to have gone awol or his desire to use it as gone when the time for running is called for.

    It’s not conserving energy when he’s jogging back towards his own goal, opponents sprinting past him to join in play, whilst the opposition has a dangerous attack. Thats lack of awareness, fitness, desire maybe. Possibly all three.

    He still does that.

    That’s not to say he isn’t a good player for us in the role he has, but there are clear limitations to his game which have to be made up for with others.

    Which is why against better teams it’s unlikely we will start with him, Nwakali and Phillips as a three despite that possibly being the better combination when in possession.
