'Zak hardaker at fevrovers always knew he was going to make it big so signed a five year contract the season before he went to leeds, making sure he looked after the club with a decent transfer fee.' Spot on, and that's exactly how it should work mate, a perfect reminder of why Mr Butterfield should (but never will) hang his head in shame for the way he shafted us, the selfish lovely person. Anyway talking of Rovers, I'd like to think we may be able to resign Zak (and perhaps a few others) in the next few years, given the way things are going both on and off the field. Did you get to the Hunslet game on New Years Day? Early days, but promising signs from a number of the new signings.
Football forum this. Hasn't egg chasing got its own forum? (Btw I actually quite like RL, an old school mate of mine plays for Sheffield eagles, used to play for cas and hull FC - but I always remember and once got told off for posting about cricket!!)
Didn't go mate, we always have wifes family over on NYD. Cant go to wakey tomorrow either cos young un as a footy match. Looking forwards to seeing the new players though. Wish BFC had as much get up and go as fev.
My advice is to not give one flying **** if someone's daft enough to pull you up for posting about a sport other than football on this forum. I certainly don't. Tarn fans could do a hell of a lot worse than get over to Fev and see a club in similar circumstances (i.e. trying to keep it's head above water despite the lack of coin in it's community, and punching above it's weight on the pitch) pulling itself up by it's bootstraps despite the best efforts of those at the (sky sports) top table to keep us feeding off the scraps. BFC would do well to look at Fev's promotional and community development programmes. Similar clubs in similar positions in their respective sports, what about a partnership?
Well fev are doing community in a big big way, thats why they keep getting that community funding. almost 50 new seaon ticket holders from barnsley this season. I the wors of craig P. cheif exec. He says barnsley "people love their sport and and its an untapped market we can get into. especially when they are disa]disillusioned with the footy team" This is starting with players and coaches going into the schools of barnsley to get the kids interested If fev do make it into SL and BFC is still being run as it is, then I think fev will steal quite a few fans. just like Barnsley did after gettig promotion to the prem just after fev were scandalously left out of SL
The only problem with stones playing Wing Back is he very rarely gets past his man and puts a cross in - always pulls it back and puts it in with his left foot or passes sideways. Quality laiker though - enjoy watching him while we've got him.
There wouldn't be a much better 'unifying' signal to send out this week than for the club, the new gaffer and the lad himself to pin his colours to the Barnsley mast for the time being. I hope he's looked at our other charlies who've had their heads turned by 'big' clubs waving cash about and where their careers have gone to see what he needs to do. His day will come.
that's all well and good, but you also have to take the big chances when they come your way. if a PL Club comes in for Stones, he would almost certainly go. and I couldn't blame him. and given our dip in turnover last financial year, i'm almost certain The Don would consider any offers £1m+ not in this window though
I keep saying this, if this kid is sold for less than 5 million then we might as well pack up now. We will NEVER move on if we sell for peanuts!! We have to sell for big money and re-invest the money wisely on 2 or 3 good players whilst banking some cash!! This kid really is that good, and at only 19 is going to get better and better!
This is Don's last window, he retires at the end of the season. John Stones isn't anywhere near ready to leave home let alone Barnsley FC.
i agree mr.c. the don has also said publicly, that no one leaves the club until the new man comes in. i don't think for a second he'll leave this window. my point was more that we're a selling club and player sales are the only thing that keep us out of the red
I thought he played well again yesterday. Hes got everything for him to be very very successful. I think hes got a contract to what 2014? which i would like the club to extended. Maybe sell the highest earning player at right back and give him that plus what hes on now if he extends to 2017?
'we're a selling club and player sales are the only thing that keep us out of the red' How can that possibly be the case? We're supposedly operating a 'spend only what you make' policy, which is of course sensible given the state of football's finances and that we want our club to exist in the long term, and the fact that we can't (or won't) compete with many Champioship clubs on either transfer fees or wages is testament to this. Surely then our annual budget can't reasonably take into account player sales given that they are occasional/unpredictable and subject to the usual market forces etc. So we can't depend on them. I'd assume any money coming in through player sales is welcome additional income so can be reinvested accordingly? Therefore while we are under no major pressure to sell, it's vital that we stop getting our pants pulled down so often when we do sell, thanks mainly to poorly negotiated contracts or professional nouse when it comes to handling offers/agents etc.
