FFS FOR ALL THOSE WHO SEE AND READ ONLY WHAT THEY WANT HE CAN PLAY EITHER ON THE WING OR AS A S T R I K E R
We tried to sign this guy around 2020 at his peak maybe Struber we had a 6 figure bid turned down, since then his career has stalled not played for national team for 4 years last played a game in November last year by the looks of it
Uninspiring on the face of it but many of our better signings have been so let’s see how it works out. Low risk on both sides.
What a crap panic signing. Just had a look at him, looks like exactly what we don’t need. As someone said before, thirty goals however sadly not in a season it’s over six
So could Humphrys, who looks ineffective up top. I'm not knocking Lewis, I hope he does well. He looks like he has some pace which we lack. He's also about 5ft9 and played most of his games off the left, so I'm a bit sceptical about him being the number 9 we're all crying out for.
Unfortunately there isn’t many 20 goals a season strikers available on the free agent market at minute , I’ll be happy if this lad has got pace and can take a man on because at the moment we haven’t got anyone like that .
I'm not one to judge a player until I've seen them play, and over a sustained period of time. So I won't make a judgement based on his goals record elsewhere. As I said on another thread though, unless we think this lad is such a difference maker that he can fire us to 12-14 wins in our last 16 games, he's a waste of a wage. We needed a proper striker at the start of January, and the damage is done that we didn't get one. Offering him a deal till the end of the season is a bit odd. If we were sure he could do the business, he'd be on a longer deal. And then, what does this say about the lad we signed on deadline day? 45 mins and out? Humprhrys is expected to be available at the weekend, and Watters in a couple of weeks. You'd think that means one of these two new 'strikers' will be out of the squad altogether.
Who would you have signed in budget then? 20 goal a season strikers don't fall off trees in Jan you know. Yes the window has been terrible but why knock players who, let's be honest, none of us know anything about, before then even kick a ball. It's another body in, one who is seemingly fit and a US international. Seems versatile as well. Genuinely don't see what there is to grumble about with this signing. It's a no risk punt.
Pleased with this signing, of all the out of contract players that were available he ticks alot of boxes. Still relatively fit, brings good pace and a bit of skill can play as centre forward or left wing, gives Clarke more options, can go 343, 3412 or 3421 now.
Let’s hope he does really well, but it’s still not that big, strong, tall centre forward that we are crying out for!!
Having pace and being able to take a man on is fine but without the end product of goals it's meaningless. Your right there aren't many free agent 20 goal a season strikers about but them again after 2 transfer windows why are we still looking for one whose a free agent.
From an MLS site: "He’s described as a very fast player who likes to take on defenders, although his end product sometimes leaves something to be desired."
Dkd could well get there. And got 20+ last season. 1 window ago. Can argue he isn't a striker but goals a plenty signed there......
I'm happy that they've found another option. Time will tell whether this turns out to be: He's a US international, just like Daryl Dike. Or He's a US international, just like Brek Shea. Good luck Jonathan. Welcome to Oakwell.
Think if I’m honest the days of us signing a proven 20 goals a season striker are long gone unless it’s a non league punt but they come around once in a blue moon.
