I'd rather we saved the money (not that there'll be much) for a RB, CH or CF. Another winger is the last position we need to strengthen.
Given how tight the budget it is, doing that might be tbe difference between us bringing him in, or us bringing in 2 or 3 other players in other areas of the pitch were desperate to fill.
Thing is its Conor who said the other day he wants another winger.Maybe his priorities will change now.
Completely agree. For years we've stacked far too many players in the same position into our squad. And the 'easy' solution when someone isn't producing is just get another. This while ignoring areas we desperately need to add to, or in the case of right backs, where we don't even have one. We have Cleary, Vickers, Farrugia, Jalo (granted he's injured) and Dunn who can all play in a front three. We have limited resources and have to use them wisely and this is where our owners/execs should be pushing back. If Hourihane thinks he needs a winger over a right back, he needs telling he's wrong.
It's a balance. Obviously, he's a decent player with good attributes or Hearts - who's are now part owned by Tony Bloom - wouldn't be interested. We don't know the other targets or even outgoings so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
He made it clear we're after an attacking minded right back. Although we're cutting costs we'll still be open to signing younger players as long as we're confident we can sell them on for considerable profit. The fact a Tony Bloom-led club is interested in him, thats all you need to know. It's the same reason we spent 800k on DKD.
You can never be confident/expectant of selling someone on for significant profit. Injuries, form, places being blocked, attitude, timing of contract renewals. We've lost plenty of players on frees and had to release players we'd paid fees for nothing too because they didn't pan out and they had no residual value. And even if we do sell someone for decent profit, it doesn't fully cover our current annual losses.
I would still sit on the side of preferring a new RW over a striker but can see the benefit of both. I just think a new proper RW would come in and possibly start right away, meaning everyone is then in their 'best' positions and give us a boost right away. Any new CF we sign, is simply not going to start ahead of DKD or McGoldrick so would be coming in just to add more depth. We know DKD can play out wide, but he is way better through the middle. We do have some players on the books who can play RW, but neither are fit yet in Jalo and Farrugia and both have had poor injury records of late too. Also one of those is not a proper RW in my eyes (Farrugia) but he can fill in and do a job there.
The club isn't skint, we just have a board that prefer not to bankroll it. Which is of course entirely up to them. After all it is their club... Just saying..
Get what you say but it’s essentially the same thing. We’re skint in what’s available to spend on players, i.e. very little.

Yeah apparently some of us keep on demanding that they spend several millions, which will of course put us in real trouble!!. And even wanting us to offer 250k for this player, is asking for too much is it ?.
Well yeah we don't know what's been offered, in fairness. I'm interested to know though, seeing as its apparently well short of what they're asking for.
