Part of the role of a wide forward is getting central when the ball is on the opposite flank so that there are at least 2 attackers waiting for delivery. Someone above described mcburnies goals and all bar the one against wednesday were provided from the right. That for me says he is playing that part of his role very well and we have been getting good delivery from the right hand side of the park.
How can a squad be built for 4-4-2 when we signed Moncur, Potts, Mallan, Knassmüllner and McGeehan who are all number 10s? You don’t play a 10 in a 4-4-2. Little or no goal threat? We could’ve been 2/3 up before United scored their first when Moore rounded the keeper and should’ve squared it and then when Isgrove ran clear and misplaced a pass. You don’t half try to massage reality to suit your agenda, Nudger.
Imo that is totally incorrect. The squad was assembled by a set of people under Patrick's instructions with individual resale value the key factor. How the played TOGETHER as a team imo wasn't taken into account, it was all to do with individual statistics and financial reward. A policy that has left us with a completely unbalanced team with gaping holes and too many similar players that all have fancy stats but do not fit into any formation with the others signed.
Apart from the Wednesday game Mcburnie scored all of those goals playing in the position and fulfilling the role Morais asked of him. Mcburnie doesn’t just drift in the centre because he fancies it. He’s following instruction. Morais has found a position for him that suits the TEAM whilst still allowing us to profit from his excellent goal scoring ability in the box. Jay struggles to grasp that there are many variables to switching to 4-4-2 which make things not as simple as he’s suggests.
No its not, his main attribute is sticking the ball in the net. If he was central more of the time then its logical that he'd get more chances. What Jays vids did not show is the amount of crosses/ goal mouth action where McBurnie is not present and crosses from the left are by McBurnie himself... Cant be in two places at once
With 7 goals to his name at Championship level, whilst learning a new position and gaining his first international cap, I imagine he’ll see his time at Barnsley as a very productive and successful loan spell. He looks happy me.
And if this formation is so great.. then how come we don't get any goals from the player on the right. You'd be forgiven when Thiam was playing cos he's, well not very good any where near the net. But Isgrove does/has got goals but not in a 3. Play McBurnie/Moore as a two..
I don’t see it that way at all. If he’s playing centrally then he’s marked shirt tight by Championship level central defenders who’ll not give him an inch. He’s then reliant on not only chances being created but losing his man in the right place at the right time. There’s no ambiguity in relation to who’s picking him up, he’s man marked. There’s also the issue of who’s creating the chances as to play 4-4-2 would necessitate playing two predominantly defensive minded central midfielders thus impairing our creativity from midfield. At the moment we’ve got three central midfielders who all burst forward yesterday at one time or another, you lose that in a two, at least with the two that we would have to select. I’ve said it previously but I really don’t see the problem with McBurnie playing as a left forward as he’s not only creating chances but he has scored 7 goals. We’ve also got goals coming from all over the field again, something we’ve lacked all season.
Can't believe anyone's arguing against McBurnie's record playing through the middle, it's ******* phenomenal.
You don’t bring in players that are out and out wingers - Barnes, Isgrove and the young guy from Bournemouth if the intention is to play with 3 forwards. Hecky himself said the squad that was brought in during the summer was unbalanced - too many central midfielders - and not enough forwards. For a Championship club to start the season with just Ugbo, Bradshaw and Thiam as the strike force is an absolute disgrace. Would love to know Heckys thoughts about GG.
Mahoney was brought in following Barnes’ departure. Both Mahoney and Isgrove are suited to playing wide in a 4-3-3, although I note that Morais came in after the window had already closed and immediately looked to install a 4-3-3 system as opposed to PH’s more conservative 4-5-1 with wingers as opposed to the wide forwards that we’ve seen of late. We could have Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku at our disposal but that still wouldn’t make our midfield options even remotely competitive in a two. That’s the unfortunate situation that we find ourselves in, it’s sad but true. If Morais thought we could perform better than we are doing in a 4-4-2 then he’d play it, it’s as simple as that. He’s with the players everyday and we aren’t, obviously. Edit - I’d also love to hear GG’s uncensored views on PH.
