It’s usually the opposite though. Especially if they’re a free agent as soon as the window ends clubs will get desperate if they weren’t able to sign their targets or if big players leave on deadline day.
Once read an article ages ago by a player ( can’t remember if it was one of ours or not) who said most players prefer to get contracts sorted asap so that they can ‘settle in’ as quickly as possible and just concentrate on the football, especially if they have a family as well. The added stress of not knowing where they will be come the start of the season is obviously not ideal
It seems unreal that we've allowed him to play us 3 times!! once fair enough, after that, why keep going back? Its like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, embarassing.
Wasn't it young Williams full back ,his agent was arguing toss for an extra 50 quid or so . And BFC ripped the contract up.
There’s still the risk that they won’t get what they want though. Not to mention that the majority will have mortgages and bills to pay, families to support and so going without any pay for two months (July and August) just to hold out for a better deal after the window closed is difficult.
Going back further i think Chris Shuker had his contract offer withdrawn when he started to play silly buggers.
There was slightly more to it than that from what I remember. The £50 was the difference between him being able to leave immediately and the club having to wait for compensation to come through. I think reading between the lines, we'd already signed Andy Yiadom and we weren't that keen on keeping him in the first place.
I'd tend to agree (if it is true of course), though with the wage constraints we have, are there many better players than Koroma in that position that we can afford. I'd argue he's an upgrade on Humphry's. If it means holding firm for a period and waiting for him to make a decision, and getting one of our top targets in before the season starts, as opposed to going for a plan b or c or whatever, then it's a risk worth taking (I think). There does have to come a point eventually though where you say enough is enough.
Shuker went on holiday so Gordon Shepherd fc uked him off. Then Nardiello did a u turn on the motorway. He signed for QPR instead out of solidarity to his pal and to put two fingers up to Shepherd.
In the most part yes, it is a club perspective, but it could equally go against him. If he leaves it too late, we may decide to withdraw it on principle that he's not going to be fit until October etc. Frustrating for fans, definitely, either way
Totally agree, most players will have young families and as such won’t be gambling on securing a club at the last minute. Imagine turning a couple of clubs down then not getting one at all, that would go down well with their families I am sure.
Dont know what all the fuss is about. Didn't rate him anyway. Unless he does sign for us, then its a cracking signing, just what we need.
This situation is a prime example of why I pay little to no attention to rumours. Until a player is pictured holding a red and white scarf and giving a cliche riddled interview to our media team, they haven't officially signed.
Sorry that was what I meant, he came back to following season so can't have been too irked about what happened with Shuker? Sure I've heard him saying he regretted his decision to go to QPR
Really don’t understand the hype over him. Hardly ripped it up for Hudds over the last few years. Will want a decent wage too, surely there are better options. Can someone explain why so many of our fans on Twatter are getting so excited over him
