Joshua vs Dubois

My mate (he can’t stand AJ) text me earlier reminding me he’s fought Franklin, Helenius and Wallin recently. He hasn’t fought anyone who can punch, during this ‘rebuild’ off the Usyk defeats.

I still told him he’d spark Daniel early. I know nothing.

AJ was hurt continually and to be honest, the ref could have waved it off in the third as he stumbled around. Then, he gets a great shot off, gets greedy and bang, goodnight.

Daniel was WAY better than I ever expected and instead of having a go at Joshua I’ll give full credit to Dubois who was absolutely spectacular.

Old Turki will be fuming. Wilder getting beaten and losing the AJ fight. Fury getting beaten by Usyk. Now this.

I’d like to suggest the old guard of AJ, Fury and Wilder’s time is up. But Usyk is older isn’t he?

Anyway. I’m Tyson’s biggest fan so I hope he can get revenge in December.

But I’m not sure there’s much desire for the dream Fury v AJ scenario now. Oh well.

Joshua is done, make no mistake about it, but I don't think this is true at all. Dubois hit Joshua about 30 times, with the ferocity of a steam hammer. I have never before seen anyone get hit that hard so often and still be on his feet. You can question Joshua's skills at that point, but you can't question his chin or his heart. And even after all that, Joshua hit Dubois hard enough to kill a Buffalo in that final round, a punch that would have finished off any other fighter I've ever seen, and he was moving in for the kill but Dubois hit him with an amazing counter punch. And even after all that, Joshua was doing somersaults to try and get himself up off the canvas. I do not understand your evaluation of that fight at all.

He beat Wallin twice in the amateurs & Wallin’s not a puncher.

N’Gannou’s a terrible boxer who dropped lucky that Fury didn’t bother training for him. It meant both N’Gannou & Joshua got a huge pay day. They should both be grateful to Fury for not training.

 

I loved Tyson. He was such an inspiration at one point. He's always been bombastic and foward. But over the past couple of years, I think he, and certainly his father, have been embarrassments to the sport. Now he's too arrogant, petulant, childish and in my view has completely ruined a lot of favour from the fans. I genuinely wanted Usyk to win that fight & I've never done that with Tyson before, but I really cannot stand the bloke now and I find it hard to move aside my bias to support him.

In saying that, no doubt he's an exceptional boxer, I just feel gutted he's acted the way he has. But I'd still love to see AJ v Fury, mate. Dubois is brilliant for me because I can't stand AJ either.

 

As a Fury fan, I pretend that fight never happened. I’m so glad he came back against Usyk and showed his quality (even if he did lose).

I didn’t realise AJ had a rematch clause for this fight. Why would he? He wasn’t champion. Bizarre. Get it on the Usyk-Fury undercard.

 

Just because he’s the financial draw I guess. I’m guessing Joshua wouldn’t have fought Dubois without that clause

 

Is that the worst performance of his career? I'd say so hands so low, chin in the air. Credit to dubois but a.j looked poor tonight. Fury looked gutted after all the money they could have made each other.

 

I don’t necessarily think Joshua is done. He’s still a good fighter who can earn a hell of a lot of money but he’s never going to be number one again that’s for sure.

Every one who’s trained with Dubois talks about how big of a puncher he is. Joyce fought safety first behind the jab to beat him, Usyk’s got an outstanding defence & great feet to evade the power.

Joshua took the shots & paid the price. Maybe he bought into the hype that he was faster than Dubois or maybe Dubois just had his number but either way you can’t take clean shots off of Dubois.

 

He's been caught throughout his career that's where my evaluation has come from not on this fight. Too vulnerable and has been caught out in the big fights too many times

 

I saw his debut on the undercard of a Froch fight in Nottingham many many years ago and knew that night, he would go to the top. Based on his boxing. I don’t go to boxers or footballers or any sportsman hoping for some kind of guidance or morality. I just enjoy the sport. If they entertain me too, happy days. For example - Dubois. Great fighter, clearly. But he’s got the charisma of a block of cheese.

I think Fury’s a supremely gifted boxer and his career has been fascinating to watch so far. But he entertains me too. I’ve just watched Dubois absolutely nail the so-called darling of British boxing and when given a mic it could have been a cardboard cut out talking. It might be just me. But I grew up on Prince Naseem, my first boxing hero. Maybe it’s how I’m wired.

But, I completely understand your view. It’s one held by many others too. I’m not daft. And I see some of his stuff sometimes and think ‘f****** hell’. I’d never hold up him up as some kind of hero to be looked up to. I don’t think he’d want that either.

His dad is a complete weapon though. But I’m not sure that’s relevant really.

 

I think dubois is just a shy bloke he's not great with a mic infront of him but he did well tonight in a great fight. Hopefully fury wins his re match but not sure I'd be backing him.

 

AJ needs to retire now. He's got enough cash, he's never getting anywhere near being on top again. If he carries on he's not going to achieve anything other than speedrunning dementia.

 

AJ is a busted flush. He was very good against an admittedly peaked Klitschko and has won some excellent fights since; but a while ago now - and he’s getting even easier to hit than he was before; no doubt he can still bang if he gets chance but let’s not pretend Daniel Dubois is in the same league as Fury, Usyk.

I’d fancy Zhilei Zhang to take out Dubois tbh.

For me, AJ needs to retire. Dubois should fight someone like Kabayel; I see that as a good fight (though wouldn’t make him as much money as a domestic fight against AJ again or Fury); but a better match up.

Fury should have another fight before going back in with Usyk. I’m not sure Usyk won it as widely as he was given it and I see it going either way so long as fury trains properly.

Joshua hasn’t been the same fighter since he got beat up by a fat bar brawler in Ruiz five years ago. He looked good against Wallin and the ufc guy who was robbed against fury - but I reckon Ngannou might not actually be as good a boxer as he was made out to be as he lost to (even if harshly) a fury at no more than 30% then completely outclassed and beat up by a Joshua who isn’t the same fighter as when he held the belts.

AJ's time is up. We should be grateful for all he's done for british boxing at a time when the division was in the doldrums. He's mega rich and as he's able to string 3 words together is now destined for the commentary box. Cheers AJ, Now go enjoy the cash.

 

Not once did Davison tell AJ to get his left hand up to protect him against the Dubois right.

That’s what lost the fight, it was an open door from the first bell and continued to be so when he finally got dropped.

 

Davison’s a complete chancer who should be nowhere near a top fighter.
